LibreOffice

Oops, I didn't see that, bleh, you know what when I remove MS Office the problem gets solved.

exactly. microsoft apps are likely to install the shortcuts fine. but libreoffice might leave residual mess on uninstallation.

Great, in the course of fixing this issue, I completely forgot that Dell has not included a backup disc for Office. How awesome is that.

If i download this, then i get a ".tar.gz" file. What should i do with it.....{In Mint)?I dont know which is an executable file in this OS, similar to exe or like in Windows.

Unpack the archive in the first place. ".tar.gz" is a bundle of files packed with Tar.

Yeah i understood that its actually something like Zip or Rar.......actually i havent downloaded LibreOffice. I had downloaded mplayer the other day, and saw the contents of the package. I got confused and left it alone. And silly me, i didnt even clarify how to use such files!!So i will be unpacking mplayer files.

@Jaymin .. which linux? Why dont u use binaries from the distribution repos. They are mostly updated in a week with latest versions.

@ 133t

I found kinstaller, and its doing this "Difficult for noobie" task for me......

stick to installing apps using the software package manager in your linux installation.
