It's the simple truth. Samsung is using PenTile so it's not a RGB|RGB layout. It's a RG|BG layout. You have to reduce the pixels to one third to get the actual pixel count.
Although HTC & Sony has come up with full RGB screens but I am waiting for thorough tests to be done by AnandTech.
But after such a great PPI you cannot see the difference between pentile or non-pentile

But we geeks still use it in my horse is better than your horse type arguments.:D:p

There's a lot of sub pixel rendering which you are missing here. With PenTile display comes the poor color rendering. Because the sub-pixels vary in size and shape, which could clearly lead to different emission patterns for each color of light. Hence it results into varied color balance. Previous AnandTech's analysis of Galaxy Nexus identified the color rendering issues of the screen.
It's just that PenTile is a fairly new technology since 2009. While RGB has been around since 60's. It will take time to be perfected. Samsung chose PenTile technology apparently for longevity since it seems to last longer, especially the blue subpixels. And I have to agree that most users are not going notice any difference.
These are just talking points of display purists.

Apple has trademarked the 'Retina Display'. Hence they could argue that Retina Display comes only with the iPhone. Theoretically it's the truth but it's silly.

Better ppi does not automatically translate into a better display... Even though nexus 10 has a much better ppi compared to the iPad , if u see the screen in person the iPad looks better ... This has been true for Samsung phones too for a long time... Even though Samsung phones at that time had lower ppi compared to the iPhone 4, it's phone screens looked wonderful coz they had a lot of colour saturation... I am a bit of a videophile so the iphone screen looked better to me as it had a normal saturated screen but most ppl who will see a iphone 4 & a Galaxy SII side by side will choose the galaxy coz its excessive saturation will make the screen seem more vibrant... Same is a bit true with TVs ... When u go into the showroom all the LEDs will look bright & saturated while the plasmas will look dull... But when u compare to the real world , it is the plasma which will give u a more natural picture vs an LED...

from the devices i have seen and used, htc one x had the best display. i have seen iPhone 5 for a couple of hours but i did not have one x at that time so hard to say which one had a better display. amoled displays are great but i seem to prefer slcd displays that htc uses.

This is exactly what they were aiming for. Smart use of language and nothing else.

They have a Sony Bravia Engine for mobile...For sharper clarity and better pictures...
