MUMBAI: Canada-based Lions Gate Entertainment Corp (Lionsgate) is set to launch two new 24-hour pay-channels across Asia by early 2009. This will be through its new Asian venture Tiger Gate.
The new channels, ‘Kix’ and ‘Thrill,’ will be genre specific and consist of Asian action films and extreme sport, and regional horror and thriller content respectively.
Tiger Gate has been acquiring content and negotiating carriage deals across East Asia and India in recent months. Also, it will leverage on Lionsgate’s existing library of over 12,000 titles for programming.
The former Celestial Pictures chief William Pfeiffer will spearhead the new venture. He will be managing the new channels and also be involved in feature and TV production as well as the distribution of Lionsgate content in Asia.
In May, the company announced a partnership with Eros International for the distribution of their films and other content in each other’s markets. Speculations are rife that with the launch of the two new channels, both companies will work more closely.
