Loads of Americans are unable to accept that Nina Davuluri of Indian origin became Miss America 2014

What would you define American then? Being white in color?
Afro-American folks have won & I am pretty sure people from other European ancestry would have won (atleast won state level) as well...So what qualifies to be an American to you? Race? Color?
Is there a century/year which defines being American. Or is there a fancy year to be chosen as a qualifying date. I guess you are saying people who had a racial/color presence when USA (18th century) was formed only are qualified? Because Red Indians were joined by the "White" man in the 15th century. Because Afro-Americans were brought there in the 17th century. Chinese Americans have been there since 19th century. Indian Americans have been there since the 20th century.
 
Dude, I said Indians are pseudo non-racist. People In India still call Sonia Gandhi 'gori' or 'firangi'. Indians have this habit of creating uproar, when something unjust happens to Indians living abroad. While they, themselves are also racist.
Remember Harbhajan Singh called Symonds a monkey. There would be no problem of immigrants in india, very few come here. Why would they come and settle here? Hypocrisy is the biggest vice of Indians. They can never change.
 
I dont care if it was Indian, Japanese or even a Martian or Plutonian who had won the Miss America. I agree a lot of Indians are racist etc & all that. But are we discussing the same topic? What has that got to do with the view about what qualifies to be a President or a stupid beauty contest for that matter?
And the fact that something a few comments by some random people on something as silly as a beauty contest is causing an uproar is laughable to me.
For me - Your view of defining "American" is what I have a problem with.

Needless arguments being made.Many are aware of americas history. Christians in europe split into protestants and catholics. The protestants left europe in search of and to finally settle in a prosperous region called india(in those days, india supplied goods to the world so it attracted everyone). Thankfully(for indians) these idiots got lost and wandered off to a continent called america(a tragic event for native americans). They thought it was india and slowly started beating back the native americans and conquering more territory until finally seizing the whole continent.Today,the real people of americas are called "native americans"while the newly arrived european protestant christians have labelled themselves "americans"The mexicans immigrants from the southern part of the american continent are called "illegal aliens"The progeny of the past african slaves are called "african-americans"Chinese are called "chinese americans"so on and so forthTechnically aka in reality,Nina is ethnically indian holding american citizenshipThe christian protestants are ethnically caucasians. They hold the entire continent hostage so citizenship comes automatically.
 
I can not ask you to agree with what I think. I said uproar in the sense that Indians do it when something unjust happened to the other Indians living abroad. Ex. That woman in Ireland in her pregnancy died, when she needed abortion, as Ireland didn't have abortion law as Ireland is a catholic country. Indian media showed coverage, that a poor Indian woman died, and how could she die, the hospital should have done this and that. i sympathise with her, and it was wrong the way she died.
But, in delhi, i read in outlook, that the same year more than 20 pregnant women died in some big delhi hospitals due to negligience. And nobody cared and there was no media coverage. If you can not do anything here in your own country, you do not have right to call other people names.
As far as this Miss America thing is concerned, I still think she shouldn't have won, she wouldn't have won in India anyways. As I can't change yours, you also can't change my opinion.
 
@sachins - I guess thats pretty much what I am trying to say.
@varun - About the Ireland incident - Its sad if there are people who only care if it happens outside India and dont when it happens in India. The media coverage may make it so. But most common folks I believe (atleast I hope) would behave the same way for both incidents - Its just the media which showcases one incident and ignores the other.
On the whole Obama-Kenya thing. Leaving Obama aside, the whole born in country to be eligible for president thingy. The base rule is flawed. A child born in USA to alien parents (say India) is eligible whereas someone whose one parent is non-American and he just happens to be born outside US & though may come back to live in US while still a kid is ineligible. Makes very little sense to me.
 
The funny part for me is that a lot of Indians will celebrate (atleast express delight) if she happens to win.
Similarly I remember reading for a couple of cricketers (Naseer Hussain & Hashim Amla) questions were asked (at different times) about how they felt about playing against India (or coming back to the roots) and their answers were similar - They were polite but very clear that they were very much English & SAfrican & have nothing to do with India per se apart from an ancestral connection.
I guess some folks will even question the PadmaShree given to folks like Tom Alter..
