The BSNL guys changed the default password of the router and they aren't letting me the new password. I can't reset the router as I don't know the configurations or even the PPPoE username & password.

I've called them a few times but they just keep avoiding by saying they'll tell me later.

What should I do.

Solution
Alright now I have access to my router. I was busy with work and all so I didn't bother digging more into it or making complaints.
I was told the password by another bsnl user who happened to look over the shoulder of bsnl guy changing it. Which happened to be the bsnl guy's name.
I'm definitely gonna tell that guy at his face the next time we meet.
But now I have all the required credentials and I've taken a backup of the config and everything.
Do you mean offically BSNL or LCO?

BSNL earlier used to give PPPoE user and psswd with official receipt of new connection commencement .

Well have a recording of the call and initiate a formal document trail regarding your request.

What excuse do they give you for telling it to you later on?

Then ask your lawyers to talk to them . (If they are reluctant nothing except higher authorities or formal papers work)

Btw are you renting or have you brought your own.

@aatuif: Simplest answer to such questions is because he wants to and has paid for it. He might want to change by-default wifi settings, NAT or UPnP.

That is why it’s best to put their dumb FTTH ONU into bridge mode and use your own router to dial a PPPOe connection and set your own password. BSNL cannot snoop into your device. This has worked for me since the day ADSL was launched and never failed in so many years. You can still ask them to put your ONU into bridge mode.

@Realme It's LCO. The guys used to work at BSNL and we've known them for a very long time. So don't really wanna take too much action right now.
Also I did buy the modem from them.
@aatuif as he said, I want to be able to change my wifi password, do port forwarding, etc. It's on my local network side, I have all rights to change those.

@sanke3 I do have a router but I want the telephone connection to work too. I think it won't work if I put onu into bridge mode.

@shin You could approach BSNL to reset the PPPoE creds as that is controlled by them. After that reset the device and set it up yourself. You would need the VLAN id that you need to get from the LCO.

Also, the PPPoE username would be there on your bill, and the password is usually password, do give it a try. You'd be able to go to https://fuptopup.bsnl.co.in/ and validate and change the password too.

They knows you and still denies, well, in stern words demand your credentials, these LCOS don't maintain different psswds, it is same for all of their customers.
psswd format is usually : <first name>+<1-4 digit combo of their primary phone number>

Here is what you can do: Ask your exchange for help regarding setting up the modem, interent setup is easy require PPPoE creds, VOIP might be a little diffcult but nothing too great.

@varkey:

You would need the VLAN id that you need to get from the LCO.
They are not giving him the psswd , why would they share the VLAN id ? :P

Why is his LCO avoiding giving him psswd?

I have the same setup and telephone works even if ONU is in bridge mode as telephone has a separate VLAN ID.

They are so freaking annoying!
The guy just told me the user name and password for the router is "user" & "user" and immediately hung up. That gives me absolutely nothing!
