MAPS feature of iPhone 3G, is it dependent upon service provider

I am just wondering if the Maps feature of iPhone is dependent on the service provider or will I always get it no matter what the service provider is.Has anyone been able to see the Maps feature working with an Airtel connection on the iPhone ?I have seen it working with Vodafone, but am wondering if I will get it on Airtel..

google maps!it uses 3g/edge.so u just need internet connectivity and it would work regardless of the operator.but be warned. vodafone has no unlimited plan on edge. and google maps is very high data consuming application.
