the ultrabook comparable device would be the windows 8 based device with intel Ivy Bridge processors i believe. so you are talking a device comparable to the high end laptop devices. as for the launch window... windows 8 is not ready for launch right? :) i guess the idea behind the event yesterday was to get developers excited for metro apps. i mean until now the reaction to windows 8 has been very mixed. there were too many doubts about the RT edition of Windows. microsoft has now clearly stated their intentions. they are serious about tablet pcs running winrt and developers now have real incentive to work on the apps for this platform.even if they could launch it today, it would not have worked well. simply because of the lack of apps. windows 8 consumer preview means that people have a working copy of windows 8 with metro in their hands. developers have the tools to create metro apps. microsoft is playing it right to ensure that there are going to be plenty of metro apps by the time windows 8 launches later this year. and people would be able to get everything they expect from a tablet on the day of the launch itself.

Now it gets very exciting in Tablet space.Android has been very disappointing for Tablets, I use one and I know that there are hardly any social media apps for tablets (its true!), leave alone general ones. The way it looks, its very comparable to any Apple product. My questions is, why not Google do something like this when they have acquired Motorola?Anyways MS is surprisingly doing well, first Kinect and now this product. But it will all end with who has better apps and MS shud attract developers after this event. If it doesnt get much dev support then its not going to help them much!

google has owned motorola for how many days? just a couple of weeks right? in any case, we are going to see the google nexus 7 tablet manufactured by Asus later this month. google's problem with tablet is software. hardware is not the problem. ipad was a big enough hassle. they just have a couple of months to fix the problem with android based tablets before windows rt comes and kick their buttocks for being lazy. as for ms attracting developers. are you seriously kidding me? the entire corporate market is owned by microsoft. and majority of the consumer market too. windows 8 is available as a public beta. developer tools are out. i can bet we are going to see more and more news about metro edition of popular apps (at least the one that have a purpose to be on metro).

as for pricing? we would find out later this year. microsoft promises that it would be competitive. i would imagine that it would be around the ipad. since this is their own branded product, they save the money on the licensing. hardwarewise of course, it is much superior to the ipad. display of course is no match for the retina display on the latest ipad.

Although they can save money on licensing costs, they are not going to undercut other Windows RT tablet manufactures. They sure don't want to ruin their relationship with OEM partners.

Wow! Simply Wow!(I still dont think I need tablet PC as of now, but whenever I need, this would be in consideration :) )

Err I thought u were mainly excited about the Win8 based tablet like me ... Anyway WinRT does not really excite me coz it does not really offer anything over the current iPad(we atleast for me)... Win8 tablet excites me coz there would come a day not in the distant future that I could pop up my Win8 tablet on a train journey pull out my Xbox controller & play COD or GOW or something similar to that... But looking at the rate at which iOS & Android games are progressing(I mean graphics wise) I might have that opportunity on the iPad of a Android tablet before Win8 tablet & for a whole lot less money... Most ppl buy tablets coz they are fun media consumption devices... The fact that they can also do a lot of stuff laptops can is a plus point but not the main selling point... All I can say to microsoft is make a good media consumption devices when will offer something unique that the ipad or android cannot offer & see ur sales jump to the moon :D ... BTW my earlier post was more related to my disappointment towards Microsoft's marketing strategies & their tendencies to delay product launches by months & years... If this preview was say a month before the actual product was available & I had a definite pricing to look forward too I would be singing a diff tune...PS saying u are gonna be competitive does not always mean u will be in actuality... Anyone else remember the Xoom which was gonna be priced competitively with the iPad but when it did launch they put a starting price of $799 on it(plus u had to pay $35 or something like that to unlock the Wifi!!!!)... So intead of the standard line that "we are gonna price competitively", I would rather prefer a more exact figure like $499 or $399 or $799...

I meant google developing similar/better in future :)I dont think google can fix the software related issues so soon. Either way with so many tablets stuck in Honeycomb, those people will be unhappy and shift to Windows.May be people will starting installing Windows 8 on their existing tabs :)But am still circumspect about the apps. Windows never clicked in mobile space and there was one diff kind of issue.MS promoted silverlight so aggressively to dump it later. Many developers are unhappy about it.Further the developer fee and all other things associated are very discouraging
