right. the reports are true. microsoft is simply not doing enough to spread the word about windows rt. i mean manu here had no idea what windows rt is which is weird considering he is a pretty techie person!
i am more amused about what happens in the future. would surface (and similar tablets) get the next edition of windows for free? or are they disposable devices like the wp7 smartphones?
Microsoft's surface is awesome but Microsoft's move on windows 8 is bad.I mean app store, why the hell do i need a app store!! who plays casual games on Intel 2nd gen processors? Those who don't have touch inputs gonna have bad time with windows 8!!I would rather go for Samsung ativ smart pc or Asus windows 8 tab(around 500$)
windows store is actually a very useful idea as long as it is not made mandatory in the future. windows store is good because you can tell your relatives where and how to quickly find and install an app. currently, to get an app, you need to search for a website. download it. and then install it. every app has a different installation process which adds the complexity. people are now used to searching for and installing apps from similar app stores on their mobile phones. another cool aspect is that the apps would be updated automatically. right now, either you have to do it manually or the developer has to add a feature on all of his apps. firefox, chrome etc etc. all have their own implementation which is a headache to maintain for individual developers. they also have to manage the servers for the same. here microsoft takes care of everything. the concept is cool. but there are big problems...1. Developers have to give 30% of their revenue to Microsoft. 2. People who have existing licenses might find it hard to get the paid version from the store (though Microsoft does offer ways). 3. People would eventually be scared of downloading and installing apps that are not on the Windows Store. 4. Microsoft moderate apps that are available through Windows Store.
