for every body who is having trouble rebooting their modem for the nu plans while keeping the modem in pppoe, here is a short tutorial.---->

(the basic method is the same one described in cyberwiz's post in the sticky but i have edited the script a little to make it work and also added the steps required to make the logoff, shutdown of the comp automatic)

the objective is to
make the modem reboot itself a couple of times at somewhere around 12:05am
logoff the current user from windows at 7:45
make the modem reboot a few times between 7:50am and 8am
finally make the computer shutdown completely at 8:05am
ok here are the steps---
1- download THIS
its a rar file that contains the following-
tst10.exe ---- the trusted old telnet tool
reboot.txt ---- the script that tst10.exe will use to reboot ur modem
LogOff.exe ---- a tool to force logoff from windows
ShutDown.exe ---- a tool to force shutdown the comp
2 - unrar the reboot folder in the file to c:\
3 - make sure that the username and password of ur modem are both 'admin'. if not, then open up reboot.txt and edit it to use ur password
this is what the script looks like
----------------------------------
192.168.1.1 23
WAIT "login"
SEND "admin\m"
WAIT "password"
SEND "admin\m" (if ur password is different u only need to edit this line)
WAIT
SEND "reboot\m"
WAIT
SEND "exit\m"
-----------------------------------
4 - goto start>all programs>accessories>system tools> scheduled tasks
5- create the following tasks
Task 1
Run - "c:\reboot\TST10.exe" /r:reboot.txt
Run in - c:\reboot
under 'Schedule'- Daily | 12:03 am
hit 'advanced', check 'repeat task' - 'every' -2min- 'until' - 'duration' - 4min
click ok
under 'settings' check 'stop task if it runs for' - 2mins
click ok
it will ask u for ur windows password -- put it in there or leave blank if u don't have a password set
Task 2
Run - "c:\reboot\TST10.exe" /r:reboot.txt
Run in - c:\reboot
under 'Schedule'- Daily | 7:50 am
hit 'advanced', check 'repeat task'- 'every' -2min - 'until' - 'duration' - 8min
click ok
under 'settings' check 'stop task if it runs for' - 1mins
click ok
it will ask u for ur windows password -- put it in there or leave blank if u don't have a password set
Task 3
Run - "c:\reboot\LogOff.exe" /F
Run in - c:\reboot
under 'Schedule'- Daily | 7:45 am
click ok
it will ask u for ur windows password -- put it in there or leave blank if u don't have a password set
Task 4
Run - "c:\reboot\ShutDown.exe" /F
Run in - c:\reboot
under 'Schedule'- Daily | 8:05 am
click ok
it will ask u for ur windows password -- put it in there or leave blank if u don't have a password set
6-test run the commands to make sure they are working fine
7-DONE!

1st make ur connection a bridge connection... that'll be easier to manage...2nd - search for Intelligent Shutdown program - its shareware-free and easiest to manage...

the auto shutdown option does not put the router off, by the way.Chinmay, shall follow your steps. Do verify the steps again in case of an error.Cheers.

I amusing autoshut down feature of win xp.My question is tht even if u dont shutdown your router after 8AM MTNL only charges for MB downloaded after 8AM so there will be no download even when the router is on but system is shut.Is this right na??????

yes, Id like to believe so. When the computer is shut, there should be no download. But if it was so simple, why would we have to go to bridge mode at all and write scripts for 12-8?

You'd be surprised to know that after 8, when your PC is shut, you may see a figure attached to the download column that could be as high as 150 MB.
And you are dealing with MTNL, so why take any risks?

I used tat vista sidebar gadget for autoshutdown..........

wat i saw in d usage was.......it created new session after the pc automatically shut down in morning.....

n new session showed accounted volume as 0.01MB

So wat happens is d site starts new session when pc shuts down and if router is on.........

so it doesnt matter even if u turn off router at 10 am.....

it wud show tat accounted volume as 0.01 MB Only......

Juzz make sure tat u hav put ur pc on autoshutdown...

Check dis PiC......

Predator,
that's not always the case. 0.01 MB, 25 MB, 50 MB ...
I am sure there's a good reason why people need the bridge mode and the router script.

This is d problem.......so i suggest...if u use tat autoshutdown.....then ur mbs wont be consumed.....also u dnt play wid ur router setting....or u can get ur router useless by using third party software to shutdown router.....one day or d other....

so d above one tat i mentioned is d best one n also d safest one.....
