MTNL Delhi MTNL Broadband = Chai Paani / Jugaad

So i have become a wanderer. Checking out ISP's. Its a strange experience after getting rid of my Airtel connection after a decade.

Went to MTNL sanchaar Haat. They warned me straight away that do not take MTNL broadband if you have disturbances in your telephone line (which i have). Went to see commercial officer. Guy was definition of "Sarkari Babu". Doesn't understand anything & doesn't care about anything.

MTNL plans are cheap. Plus they have Freedom 800 plan without FUP. I inquired about the details of plan. Called 1500. A very old woman picked up and asked me - "Beta konsa plan chahiye".

I already know about headache with MTNL customer service. Still might give it a try.

Edit - Forgot to mention. I have MTNL landline. Everytime i have problem, a Buddhha MTNL technician comes to repair and ask for chai-paani. I want to beat him up badly. But i have pity at his face.

Have it since 2 decades. My friends & relatives have the number. So i don't wanna get rid of it.

Here's the catch. My Father paid 18000 Rupees to MTNL 2 decades back. These were the official installation charges 2 decades ago! (Ask your grandparents how costly was MTNL in 80s & 90s) MTNL will continue to provide me monthly subsidy until 18000 Rupees, the initial security amount lasts. I don't wanna get into hassles of reclaiming security deposit post disconnection.

So i plan to use MTNL at least till my security deposit lasts.

seems pretty bad in delhi.. much better in mumbai. they actually do listen n help though they are a bit slow

Yep in Mumbai - MTNL is very helpful wrt support.

Even if they dont know the solution - aunties do try to listen and understand the issue.

Having experienced both, I can easily say MTNL staff is pretty helpful on the whole.

Unlike other operators, it is relatively easily to get in touch with the network team/technical staff at MTNL, and they do help, which is probably why, inspite of the not so good cellular network, I always maintain an active MTNL number.

Unfortunately, the OP doesn't seem to want look beyond the 'sarkari' image.

I have been asking MTNL since last 5 years to fix my landline. I have disturbances in my landline (noise of khush khush). MTNL can't fix it. Old man from MTNL comes and do some work but that doesn't change anything.

I have to say though. Things used to be worse. My phone used to be dead for 4-5 days every so often. Then i met commercial officer (dozen times), and he finally got that fixed. So at least my line is not dead at present.

Noise in the line could be due to:

1. Damaged underground lines i.e. everyone in your area faces the same problem

2. Local damage i.e. internal house wiring or faulty pair.

Unfortunately 1 can't be fixed. For 2, you could try fixing it yourself or complain at pgportal.gov.in
