This info is for those people who can approach local courts/Consumer Courts without any problem. Its been observed that MTNL Mumbai is charging whooping amount for the same service as in Delhi.I've consulted few Law people, and what they have suggested me that, Mumbai people can Complain in the local court under Monopoly Act stressing that the charges for the same service in Delhi by MTNL or by any-other service provider in any other part of country cannot be differ much. And as MTNL is nearly sole service provider, hence very high charges. Thus it seems an act to DIVIDE the country....Very strong case... but u also need a good lawyer...

and he is gonna ask for a lotta money, coz cases in our courts drag on and on and on and on and on.....................

consumer courts are different. you can fight without a lawyer. and fees are less. decisions are also relatively fast. but to prove that MTNL has a monopoly in Mumbai? that is hard.

It is possible MTNL Mumbai and DELHI are different companies. BSNL as a single ALL India entity also Govt owned but has different tariffs for cellphones in different states and promotional BB schemes. So tariff plans should be same for all three above. One example : In BSNL U/L are counted whereas MTNL it is not counted.

but to prove that MTNL has a monopoly in Mumbai? that is hard.

obviously mtnl does not have monopoly. all areas of mumbai have cable network & i believe all cable operators specially big ones like incable, hathway, 7star & all provide internet in their respective areas. apart from them there are providers like sify, tata, xbroadband, you tele & airtel in many areas.

so cant prove monopoly. no clear case. it would be like expecting a miracle...

MTNL has the monopoly in MUMBAI as a Stable BB provider with very little fluctuation in quality of service and relatively low prices(Compared to Mumbai Providers)..................Until problems start, when all He*l breaks loose on you!!!!!!!! :cry:The other providers are present, but Their service is not stable, their prices are high and they don't have an all Mumbai Presence :(Once they improve MTNL will hv no option than to drop their rates

no rachit, what sushubh said, its absolutely right. Tell me in how many areas airtel broadband is feasible?? If u visit their site u'll come to know there are just 8~10 areas in mumbai. Whether its you tele, sify, hathway; same case everywhere. While MTNL is availble everywhere.
So MTNL has monopoly in mumbai.

monopoly grounds might not stand. but we need to prove that MTNL can afford same/similar rates here, but it is not doing it here just because it has no tough competition like its facing in airtel in delhibut who wud do this?

mtnl does not have a monopoly. they have a wider coverage. no one is stopping airtel from having a wider coverage. it would have been a monopoly if mtnl was acquiring all rival companies leaving the customers with no choice.

But the courts may side with MTNL.They will say there is an open market, and private operators are free to enter and peddle their services.
Once they do that;Competition will ensure that MTNL drops its rates,so our case will be thrown out and the judge will say
Sue the other operators for not giving Competition to MTNL in an free market....
Coz MTNL already has some of the cheapest most stable plans in Mumbai :(
