DNS should not make a difference. also test out with google public dns. i would personally believe that your line has issues :|

Strange...I had some problem once...where visiting a particular page of particular site wud disconnect my connection. Then disabled 'sync' mode of PPP (in Linux) and all worked fine.i dont know if windows has such thing, if it is.. then u can try.

line has no issues!!!!! right now i was downloading fifa 10, when on opendns, sites would not open plus frequent disconnections but good speeds. on mtnl dns i get the same good speeds but not disconnections. this is a very unique problem :)

do u use bridged mode or PPPoE mode.. if PPPoE mode than u need to check ur router for such a setting.if bridged mode then u shud find it some where in GUI. (atleast its there in Fedora)

MTNL does not reject opendns in fact I had a chat with senior people in MTNL (DGM & above) & they have told me that they have no objections if the customer uses any other DNS settings.

if what you tell holds true then i shoudnt be facing disconnections every 2 mins, if use opendns. but its happenning the reverse. let me scheck again, it could also be due load on servers maybe

Well, I (and many others here) am using OpenDNS from almost 2-3 yrs now. Never had problems.

Ping the OpenDNS servers as well as MTNL & see if there is a timeout. I have had occasions when OpenDNS servers had given me problems but that is rare. Use the following

Open DNS
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
208.67.220.222
208.67.222.220

MTNL DNS
Mumbai
59.185.3.12
59.185.3.10
203.94.227.70
Delhi
203.94.243.70
59.185.0.23
59.185.0.50
the MTNL DNS servers have been used by us in Mumbai from 2005.

The first 2 in Mumbai are new ones. I have checked upto 59.185.3.30 (http://www.whatismyip.com/tools/ip-whois-lookup.asp) & they all belong to MTNL :) Someone can check above XX.XXX.X.30 :d

PS: I pinged all the Ip's I have mentioned & none are giving any problems, so it might be local to your line or machine.
