My neighbour applied recently. He got connection in a week. But he told me that when he contacted exchange, they told him that he will have to wait for weeks if he wants modem on rent. So he bought his own instead of going for rent and got it in a week.

@Amish,The situation was same in Kolkata until a year ago. I still remember my neighbor who got her BB connection after 7 months...! :O But things have speeded up after that and things are fine now.
They started sending alerts in Hindi too now!
