MTNL Broadband to charge rental for modems and routers

BTW. The error on the regular MTNL website which said there is a rent of Rs 50/- for self owned modems has been corrected & now displays 'Nil' as before. For those who doubt what I have said about the old display which was visible yesterday. See this

Now mercifully both the regular & the Beta site display the correct info.

I spoke to him a little while ago. (He is a busy guy) Will speak to him at leisure over the weekend to get him back. I know him well for many years. Infact he recommended this site to me

When I spoke to Socrates some time back I came to know that he had sent an email to the ED (Mumbai) regarding this & even got a reply (on a sunday), after which it was rectified today & care seems to have been taken to to update the beta site correctly

Good observation.
When I spoke to Socrates some time back I came to know that he had sent an email to the ED (Mumbai) regarding this & even got a reply (on a sunday), after which it was rectified today & care seems to have been taken to to update the beta site correctly Is it. Then we should thank him for his initiative for bringing it to their notice, at the highest level. It did give a jolt when I saw the insanity of charging rent for self owned CPE's. But alas his PM is still disabled. I hope he comes back.

From 01/07/2011MTNL charges Rs. 50 for Monthly Modem rental from all combo andunlimited plan customers who have taken modem from MTNL.No monthly CPE Rental for customers using their own modem..In selected Unlimited Plan MTNL is offeringmore Download Speed duing Night (10:00PM to 08:00 AM) and MTNL is alsooffering additional 25 monthly free calls to DSL_combo_249DSL_combo_500 &DSL_combo-B. New Customer in Unlimited and Combo plan who have notcompleted 6 months will not be charged monthly modem Rental howeverthey will be charged modem rental after completion of 6 months ofservice.
The red has been added by me to highlight it. This is over and above it being displayed below in point 'v' in the charges section on the same page. Looks like somebody got singed by Socrates ka mail to MTNL. Maybe we should call it the 'Socrates Effect' :rofl:
