mtnl 3g mumbai
Is everyone else having this problem? I have a Trump sim card from MTNL, I've activated 3G, I've entered the correct APN settings (apn: mtnlppsmum; username: mtnl; password: mtnl123) in my Samsung Galaxy (Android) phone, and I'm constantly seeing the notification that I'm receiving a 3G or HSDPA signal. AND YET ...1. My speed tests consistently get between 460 and 490 kbps (download) and between 200 and 230 kbps (upload).2. If I listen to streaming audio, the connection constantly drops, the audio stops, and I get a message reporting data usage since the last drop (ten minutes ago), as if I had disconnected the data session on purpose.3. These conditions never change, no matter what time of day or where I am in Mumbai.I also have a Vodafone sim card for 3G and when I use it, it consistently gives me thrice the speed, and never disconnects. What's the deal? Is MTNL chopping up the data connections on purpose? Do I have to activate HSDPA? Is everybody's 3G speed capped on MTNL? If so, why? Why does it have to suck so terribly? Please help. I really can't afford the Vodafone plan, or anybody else's for that matter. If you are getting good 3G service on your phone through MTNL in Mumbai, please tell us what you've done to get it.

I too have observed same kind of problem except that my speed remain around 1mbps and no disconnections, still It is far less than 3.6mbps and avg speed for downloading say 10MB file never comes out to be greater than 1mbps

Man, what I would give for 1 mbps. If nobody has any solution for this, I'm switching to Vodafone.

^ ya, its time to shift but airtel and vodafone should come up with some realistic plans, they are living in cloud 9.

You are getting 3G speeds only. That is because MTNL wants to charge you further Rs,. 399 for HSDPA activation. I got it done after a huge struggle. MTNL's HSDPA network is currently capable of 3.6 mbps. The Quality of service is pathetic as connection can drop left and right. The concerned personnel are aware of this issue since a year but they don't bother.'s QOS.I expect them to improve their services once they check out Vodafone

@barsaati: You are not the only one. In fact everyone has the same story to tell. Speed limited to 50KB/s, disconnection every 3 minutes, HSDPA activation failing on mobile sim card...I feel that GPRS was much better than 3G from QoS point of view. At least the disconnections were not as frequent as in 3G.

Vodafone cannot come up with realistic plans. Hell, they can't even come up with realistic TV ads only cartoon pumping some plastic muscles with repetitive brain damaging music playing in the background. All their remaining money after 3g Auction has been wasted on that. What do we expect?

Airtel is a non real company. How can we expect real plans from non real company?

logiccool how u getting 1.7 mbps on this mtnl sim? did u activate HSDPA? or you purchased mtnl datacard? or did u recharge any 3G plans like 99 or 250? r u in mumbai?
