MTNL Delhi MTNL Speed stuck at 2 MBPS despite changing plan to 8 MBPS

same here changed plan to 1395 combo and not getting speed of 4 mbps , will wait a few days or change back to 1295 combo of 2mbps upto 50 GB

i contacted mtnl and they said they have some problem with the line so they cant give 8mbps speed but in the screenshot the attainable rate is 8mbps
so if i opt for 8mbps plan will i be able to get the promised speed?

No. for the 8mbps plan they have synced mine at 9216 kbps. 4mbps on yours should be doable.

It's all possible, you just need them to make the changes on their end. It takes forever for them to do it. I faced the same problem long back.

MTNL chaps have their standard replies, they even told me that I could not get 1mbps because my house was too far. Total BS. After about a month of requesting people at MTNL, we called the area manager. Believe you me, it took 5 minutes, freaking 5 minutes for them to make the change. Just unbelievable.

Some MTNL people just do not want to work and give all kind of excuses. Contact the area manager and then things are done very fast. My MTNL internet was very unstable and for 2 weeks these people talked about faulty wiring and distance from exchange. Then I complained to area manager, an officer came, checked the settings, and talked to someone on phone. And it was fixed in seconds.

yes, the 8mbps plans on DSL only work upto a km the best, a variety of methods can be employed like channel bonding / phantom pair etc.

A lot also depends on the condition of the copper cable underground and the copper plant outside your house, copper degrades fairly quickly and without proper shielding it leads to high attenuation and low SNR.

The main problem however is not with the technology, i.e. ADSL2+, its with the condition of the copper lines and the distance, the distance is not actually just the physical LOS- line of sight distance but it is the length of the cabling from the exchange MDF to the copper plant and to your home. within the exchange itself around 300m+ of wiring loops are there, thus add around 500m to your physical LOS to calculate actual line distance.

Most of the copper cabling has been done fairly early and yes you guessed it right, it has degraded quite a bit, also the mtnl DSLAM should support specific frequencies to give full 24mbps, which i don't think they do currently, but they are upgrading these as we speak, even in my colony they have installed a new DSLAM for the 8mbps plans. i think the plan is to go use these for ADSL2+ till 20mbps and then later shift to VDSL2 with vectoring on 17a/30a profile for 50mbits + and eventually g.fast for 1gbits/s/

line speed and stability also depend on your modem, some modems are able to negotiate lines upto SNRM of ~ 3dB which is quite low and hold it stable, in contrast the golden ratio for SNRM is considered to be ~ 10dB for a stable connection. what also plays a part is DLM which is also known as digital line management, when your connection is initially set-up or your sync speed is changed the DLM kicks in and negotiates a tradeoff between speed and SNRM for a stable connection, this goes on for 15-25 days and will reset your connection quite a few times to achieve a proper figure.

mtnl has recently started expanding its broadband operations, i have seen new OFC cables being laid near my house to another residential colony and mtnl will start providing FTTc there by next month.

The new exchange will probably have a OFC connecting to the DSLAM near your house and the copper length will not be more than 1km, with new copper. I think the govt is spearheading MTNL in the right direction and the way these guys are going, i won't be surprised if we see a fup of 2mbps unlimited for 1200~1500s a month by the end of next year along with 100mbps plans for delhi.

right now, the fastest mtnl delhi plan is for 3500 50ul/50dl with 300gb data and 2mbps post FUP, if you compare that with ACT corporate plan which has 100mbps with 600gb data with 3mbps FUP for 7000, i think MTNL has done quite a lot of catching up, considering the fact that bandwidth is more expensive in Delhi and the fact that they are offering 50mbps symmetrical is a pretty big deal.

its possible to get better speeds i think upto 6mbps should be doable which means your actually speed will be closed to 5~ mbps taking overheads into account. generally there is a 20% loss of b/w on xDSL technology. For ex. if your sync rate is 2048 your actual rate is about 85% of 2048 = 1800kbps Approx. thats why they sync higher., but your copper has degraded quite a bit as your SNR is low; attenuation is high and CRC errors are there indicating noise on the line. You will need a new line all the way from the exchange to your house if that is how it works presently ( or a new port setting on the MDF ), otherwise MTNL will most probably install a DSLAM near your house with OFC in the coming days and should be able to handle 8mbps easily.

I changed my plan on 8 October through online method. The day after my profile showed that my connection is already changed to freedom 1495 but my line rate etc. was not changed.

So i sent an email to some mentioned address which i saw on previous page requesting them to change my line rate for 8 Mbps plan, they did changed it to 10245 down 1021 up the next day. I also called 1504 and they told me to wait 1-2 days so i said ok.

Now today my line rate is again revised to 9210 down 861 up, but still my speed is not increased :(

What i have to do to get the 8 Mbps speed as regardless of increased data rate i am still getting old speeds.
