@bandra user:try g.dmt mode... if that doesnt work then if ur neighbour has utstar/D-Link modem try with that.may be as cyberwiz said its modem problem@azetertry reseting modem and put ur machine on dhcp modem. call 1504 for help. they can explain ueverything on phone. because they know that the best. everytime (2-3 times only though) i calledthem with connection problem they asked me to reset modem and etc. so now they are master in that.

Right now I am happy to go back to a 512kbps speed if that will solve the problem (any idea how i can do that?) or switch to someone else.[/b]

Complain to MTNL that you want 512k instead of 2mbps and they will downgrade your speed. They have a special tool for that. :P

Did not work for me.

I have a Netgear DG834G which is set to multi-mode as default. SNR Margin for downstream fluctuates between 12-25. Aything below 18 or so and the connection is unstable.

Have used the same modem/router for 5 years in London without any problems. At speeds upto 8Mbps.[/b]

U can try out the following stuff on ur DG834 to increase SNR threshold if its the default firmware that u r using.

Inside the DG834GT is a hidden telnet server so the first step is to activate it. Enter the following link into a browser.

192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?todo=debug

You may be presented with the login prompt. Use your normal username and password.

Next open a command prompt window.

START > RUN > CMD

in the window type - "telnet 192.168.0.1" without quotes and bingo you are in.

If you do not get access to the telnet server here then it is likely that Sky have disabled it so ignore the rest of the post and give up.

at the # type "adslctl --help" for the following list of commands:-

Quote:
Usage: adslctl start [--up] [--mod ] [--lpair
]
[--trellis ] [--snr ] [--bitswap ] [--sra ]
adslctl stop
adslctl connection [--up] [--down] [--loopback] [--reverb]
[--medley] [--noretrain] [--L3] [--diagmode] [--L0]
[--tones ]
adslctl configure [--mod ] [--lpair ]
[--trellis ] [--snr ] [--bitswap ] [--sra ]
adslctl bert [--start ] [--stop] [--show]
adslctl info [--state] [--show] [--stats] [--SNR] [--QLN] [--Hlog] [--lin
ediag] [--reset]
adslctl --version

To set SNR type "adslctl configure --snr N" where N is the value from the table below (all values are approximate so suck it and see). The router will re-sync using the new value for SNR. It may take about 20 seconds for the router to re-sync and establish a connection. It is generally recommended to have SNR > 6db.

N -- SNR(db)
6 -- 4.6
7 -- 4.8
8 -- 4.9
9 -- 4.9
10 -- 4.7
20 -- 5.6
30 -- 6.2
40 -- 6.9
50 -- 7.4
60 -- 8.2
70 -- 8.8
80 -- 9.3
90 -- 10

Type "adslctl info --stats" for router stats.

Check at the top of the stats list for your new sync rate and downstream SNR.

Type "exit" to exit.

has dowgrading the speed resolved alot of issues here is that true.its so frustrating talking to these crap mtnl people.god know from which part of this universe have they been involved.i was just on the phone for 45mins talking to south indian guy and with his south indian english accent i couldnt understand what he was trying to convey so i gave up but now somehow my internet is working.can someone pls tell me in this forum if they feel that most of time these triband people are lying coz after calling them for around 100 times there is luckily one gets connected to their customer service and if we ask them if there is any problem at their end they say no which i feel is not true coz if the problem is not at their end then why does it take one ages to get in touch with them.

I cannot change the SNR settings on my DG834G. The post above only applies to a DG834GT which has a different chipset. Have not called MTNL yet to reduce speed to 512kbps but am trying something else - reducing MTU size to 1350. Will let you know if that works. It could be a Netgear modem problem but I have read many reviews where the DG834G came out as one of the better modems at low SNR margins.

Hi guys,

My MTNL broadband connection has been a mess ever since this 2mbps upgrade. Things were slow earlier at 256kbps but atleast workable. I've been struggling with the MTNL tech support for the past 3-4 days. Read all your comments and also took a tweak test at https://www.dslreports.com/tweaks but no improvement. Until, I applied MTNL's primary and secondary DNS servers to the TCPIP configuration for the network connection. That has fixed the sluggish connection. I hope it stays that way.

I'm using the D-Link DSl-502T device, and the MTNL exchange is hardly 1.5km away so packet loss seems negligible. Here's my current ADSL stats:

SNR Margin 14 14 dB
Line Attenuation 38 18 dB
Data Rate 2048 256 kbps

I hope this tip helps!

Will keep you updated.

My connection has improved since I reduced the MTU to 1350 on my Netgear DG834G. Can get about 3-4 hours uninterrupted now but that is not good enough.

It has been about 6 weeks since the upgrade to 2 Mbps and my experience has been that the disconnection is more frequent only if telephone instrument is connected before the adsl splitter.I have multiple telephone instruments connected - one after the splitter and two before the splitter. Before the upgrade, even if I used the instruments before the splitter for making and receiving calls, the disconnection was rare. And if disconnected, would reconnect automatically immediately. But after the upgrade, if I use the instruments before the splitter, the broadband gets disconnected, and takes a longer time to reconnect. But if I use the instrument after the splitter (the recommended way !) absolutely no problems. Unfortunately as the telephone insturment is needed in every room, and I am haven't got around in the last one year to rewire so that every instrument is after the splitter !Mumbai , dsl399, 256K

buy additional splitter for each phone. they cost just 85Rs.
