Well i don't know if antenna with the wire around it help in any way, but that "shark fin" that is found on BMWs is not a radio antenna, it is for the car's GPS navigation, the Radio antenna on current BMWs is in the rear window.

Still no sign of any new stations. C'mon ppl give us atleast one more station before the end of the year. Nagpur got another one today. What's wrong with the Pune market? Does nobody listen to radio in Pune or what? I can't get a single Mumbai station in the Camp area.

Still no sign of any new stations in Pune while cities like Solapur get Big FM. Pune sucks big time!!! Any scoop if anything is going to rock before the end of 2007? Radio City, r u listening?

I hope they start some new radio channels. I guess Pune is the only big city with just 1 FM channel. I think the the TimesGroup has some major influence in the city and are just not allowing others to enter.

However there are a couple of things
1) Companies did win the bid for FM channels in Pune
2) The radioone website has openings for Pune : Radio One . So please anyone interested put in your resumes and that might fill up the jobs and therefore the radio station may start.
3) RadioMirchi did have some upgrade done yesterday night (Perhaps waiting for the competition ??)

What upgrade did Radio Mirchi do ? I found it the same as usual in the morning !

And stupid Timesgroup complains when DNA uses hardball tactics to stop their circulation for a day. BTW, how is Timesgroup connected to Mirchi (ENIL)? So many Tier III towns now have more than 1 FM. Its the same Mumbai-step-brother treatment for Pune. OT: Dont you think its high time, Mumbai was given statehood and Pune made the capital of Maharashtra? Then we can get some proper attention to improving the city.

I have a couple of slightly off-topic questions to technical experts here, though related:

Some cars have different types of antennae instead of usual FM antenna (simple metal rod). These look like -
- Either a 2nd wire wound on a rod.
- Or so called shark-fin type of antenna which is quite small and their appearance is literally like fins of a fish.

Questions are-
1. Are they meant for purposes other than FM radio?
2. Are they in anyway more beneficial (or disadvantageous) than usual antennae?
The small antennae which is usually horizontally placed behind ur rearview mirror is a fm/am antenna, which can have the same gain or more of that top of external antenna.

LOL!wire wound on a rod-it is called ferrite core antenna for reception of AM esp MW.

then there is loop antenna which is like a square loop which can give good gain for shortwave frequencies.
normal radios contains a ferrite rod+loop antennae for MW and SW reception.

Gigacore avargale Namaskara! ;)
