Hello everyone! ,
I am new to the forums. (But following it from quite some time now.) I currently have BSNL wired broadband with the ULD 950 plan.(4 mbps till 8 GB and 512 kbps beyond). I am having no problems with it so far and it has been quite reliable. But i am a type of downloader and 8 Gb is just..* :anger3: *..Those 8 gigs get used up between 2nd/3rd of every month...Video streaming, windows updates, :pirate: ,etc etc you just can't live with 8 gig in this digital age! The 512 kbps post fup speed is a joke.I connect 4 to 5 devices through wifi and 512 is not enough for all these.
I am looking for something truly unlimited as i am fed up of this fup! There are really not ISP who provide BB at my area. Airtel/Reliance is not present, Docomo is there but my area, although in middle of city,is not feasible! There are no other ISP,which i know of. Then i come across BSNL EVDO which has a unlimited plan for ₹ 750 and has speeds upto 3.1 mbps. How good is EVDO? How will i share the usb connection through wifi? I am a gamer and i know that Evdo, which is through cdma network would give me too good pings. So i would like to keep my current broadband and lower the plan to ULD 525 and then add Evdo for downloading and all that stuff. Is this correct thing to do? Should i buy the modem from BSNL or buy something like micromax/Huawei? I have already registered at uddan.bsnl.com for a new evdo connection. Thanks in advance!

You are from kolhapur mate. You don't have many options. Check out if evdo has good coverage in your area. You would get fluctuating speed but it is truly unlimited. My friend in Nagpur uses evdo. I dunno much about where it would be available. But I'll say it should be available at bsnl office. Go for evdo USB modem, it doesn't have fup.

@varun,thanks for the reply. I know that i am not going to get some 50 mbps fiber broadband in my city but..but there should be atleast one good isp with truly unlimited plans.Kolhapur has great demand for some good internet service providers. Anyway, i have high hope from evdo now. Hope that it turns out to be a good solution!

Reliance is not available here mate.It seems that evdo is the only option or i will have to wait for that golden day :peaceful: when bsnl gives minimum 1 mbps post fup speeds (would that even happen? any idea?)

Ok now that the BSNL evdo guy has called me 2 times in 2 days and is telling that the service is available and he is promising me atleast 1 mbps speed. He insist's me to visit the bsnl office for more details. What should i do? Should i wait for some change in bsnl bb plans? How will i make a wifi hotspot from evdo? Which usb routers support it?

Don't wait for BSNL BB. You could try Evdo out. If it's good then continue with it, if not then discontinue. You'll have to find out evdo's speed, consistency, coverage etc. No one can tell you that. As far as WiFi is concerned I don't know much about it. But I guess with wireless device you could create WiFi zone with router or some other device.

Tried EVDO connection (bsnl guy came to give a demo) ran various Speedtest. Conclusion? 512kbps speed:( That too was with 4/5bars signal strength. I am stuck with BSNL broadband now.

With 4-5 signal bars you must get 1.5mbps easily.. Just a few speed tests for a few minutes cannot potray the real scenario because I also face such speeds every now and then in a couple of days for a few hours. I get 3bars and occasional 4 bars. Speeds are between 1.3-2.5mbps (Chennai). However once in every few days speed never goes above 1mbps for quite some time.. Sometimes even for 1-2 days..Did the bsnl guy use an extention cable? Did he try at different places of your house using a laptop? I suggest you to buy it and test it yourself.. It is not going to cost you more than 1-2 months broadband bill. My area doesn't have any bts evdo tourer according to bsnl website. Still I get pretty good reception. For initial testing you can opt for 55rs 2 day pack.. Not necessarily 750rs pack..

can u post some speed test for us...? its not a bad idea though using evdo connection even i have taken some reviews from other friends of mine ...they said most of the cases they get aroung 2mbps depends on the signal bars but atleast its unlimited...
