With 4-5 signal bars you must get 1.5mbps easily..Just a few speed tests for a few minutes cannot potray the real scenario because I also face such speeds every now and then in a couple of days for a few hours.I get 3bars and occasional 4 bars.Speeds are between 1.3-2.5mbps (Chennai). However once in every few days speed never goes above 1mbps for quite some time.. Sometimes even for 1-2 days..Did the bsnl guy use an extention cable? Did he try at different places of your house using a laptop? I suggest you to buy it and test it yourself.. It is not going to cost you more than 1-2 months broadband bill.My area doesn't have any bts evdo tourer according to bsnl website. Still I get pretty good reception. For initial testing you can opt for 55rs 2 day pack.. Not necessarily 750rs pack..
Ya, even i thought that i will get atleat 1 Mbps, but the connection was maxing out at nearly 600 kbps.
No, BSNL guy did not use any type of extension cable, nor did he try at different places in the house, but as i said, i am getting good signal strength with nearly 4 bars constantly as i am on the top floor of the building.
What is bts evdo tourer?
BTW, here's my story dealing with BSNL guys:
Firstly, their customer service is THE best I have ever seen from all the companies, i ever had experience with! (at least in my city)
They respond to your queries promptly, and give proper information happily.
When i went to the EVDO section, before i could ask for a demo, he insisted my that i should take a demo and then only get the connection. I went to the main city exchange at aroung 12 o clock and the guy was on the door at 3 pm, for the demo!
The guy who came for giving the demo, for the first time i had experienced, had some knowledge about the connection.
The uddan.bsnl.com works like a charm. I apply for a new connection there, and they call me, and give further details, etc etc BSNL is really good these days! Only that *cough*FUP*cough*
Will look for other wired bb options and if all fails, then would get a evdo data card.

dude i was in the same trouble like u but i had airtel and bsnl both for months i used bsnl evdo my review is that pings around 100-130 or 150 on joister cs sv and speed is good sum day sum days not too good but no downtimes.

^^ evdo tower.. Sorry for the typo. Evdo signals are available only in areas under evdo bts tower(2-3km radius). According to bsnl s website my area has no coverage. P.s. Today I was getting 1.6-2.4mbps from 12 am when I turned on my laptop up till 10pm..downloaded about 7.5gigs..was browsing the rest of the time downloads weren't running. From 10.30 -12 speeds are between 650-1.2mbps..it just depends.. Nothing is fixed and that is one major disadvantage for me.. Sometimes I get speed in the night and sometimes I don't. However easy 120gigs+ a month.. I used about 300 gigs since January. If you don't mind taking risk.. Get the evdo connection and test it yourself. With 4 bars you must get better speeds assuming there are moderate evdo users in your area.

I don't think there will be many/any evdo users here. Anyways, I will get evdo if everything else fails. Btw, I just went to Speedtest.net and on my location tab, it shows me 4 ISPs who provide Internet in my city. They are tata docomo, bsnl, honesty net solutions, and in2cable. Now, can anyone please tell, how are honesty net solutions and in2cable? I thought these isp were region specific and were only available in metro's, but Speedtest.net shows them as available in my city. Here's the link to the page- tell me if you can't view it properly. http://www.netindex.com/download/4,174710/Kolhapur/

can u post some speed test for us...? its not a bad idea though using evdo connection even i have taken some reviews from other friends of mine ...they said most of the cases they get aroung 2mbps depends on the signal bars but atleast its unlimited...

Time :10.30 am.. I don't get such speed all the time though.
I use leeching services for torrents like zbigz, bytebx and download them via idm.
My download speed is between 200kb/sec-320kb/sec.. Occasionally maxes out to 350~..
More than sufficient for download only purposes.
YouTube @480p without any buffering...
Couldn't ask more at this price.
After 3 months of hard core downloading I'm out of files. Have more than 2TB hard disk space. Don't know what to download :p

Holy crap, that some really goo speed! I wonder ho could my speed with good signal, be absurdly low at 512kbps.
Can you explain what is a leeching service?
Youtube 480p no buffering is more than enough for most people.
So,..you don't have files to download? I have a pretty big list here which will go in a download manager/utorrent like a wild cat if I get a Unlimited connection, with good speeds.

Leeching/caching services like zbigz/bytebx are a boon for torrent downloads. Just add the magnet link /. Torrent file, they will download the file with their high speed servers and give you resumable direct download links /options to stream also. We can use idm to download. So you don't have any fluctuating speeds. Also when you have limited seeds with low download speed you don't have to keep utorrent running. You can add it to those websites, they will download it for at the same slow speed.. Then once it completes you can download it later at full speed. Saves a lot of time and energy.. There are a lot of groups on Facebook that provide free premium access..

I am using justseed.it, it is cheaper and it also seeds back instead of just leaching as much as you want. $3.99 1tb bandwidth

^ cool.. I don't buy or pay . As of now, cannot afford to spend my little pocket money for this, also occasionally use this, so not always do I need it . Just using free services from groups and other blogs.

I had found out a 1 mbps truly unlimited plan on BSNL website.
(*All BSNL guys start searching for it on BSNL website*)
See if you guys can find it or else i will post the link here.
