New connection - What's the problem?

Migrated from Airtel to BSNL.Using same ADSL modem - Billion Bipac 5200S.The ADSL LED is constant (means its OK)and PPP LED is also constant -(means userid/password combo match and ADSL line active...)Still I can't access/browse any webpages.I think I'm missing something pretty much elementary.Tried some DNS servers (no luck) -Can someone give me Chennai BSNL DNS server list?What could be wrong ?

did you change any modem settings for bsnl or using old settings from airtel?the two most imp. settings are VPI/VCI values must be 0 & 35 & operation mode "G.DMT".

What's the DNS servers ?

the bsnl dns servers are 61.1.96.96 and 61.1.96.71.... but they are too slow as they are overloaded... im sure most of the dataone users use this throughout india, hence overloading their dns server..
I use opendns servers.. they are very fast ,hence it does improve your internet speed.. you can check out their webpage OpenDNS | Providing A Safer And Faster Internet
their dns server ip's are 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 ...

in your LAN connection settings default gateway should be 192.168.1.1(your modem home page).subnet mask 255.255.255.0.address type must be matched with modem(e.g. it should be DHCP if in modem it is set to DHCP).just for testing use dhcp first if you set it to a fixed ip in modem & LAN.also check"automatic dns server address to see if it helps.

Got the problem resolved ...The Billion modem somehow couldn't change its settings to use with BSNL. I don't even know how... By the way, I'm using D-Link GLB-502T now with BSNL and everything looks fine now!

I think this modem details available in Tataindicom also. checking.
( If the modem has an USB port)
USB drivers are first downloaded to hard disk.
then connect the usb cable to computer. Let windows detect the hardware.
Then load the drivers from HD location.

Chennai DNS given in booklet.
BSNL dns : 218.248.255.145
secondary 61.1.96.69.
