new connection_a little help here

hi i have recently registered with bsnl dataone...in kolkata my modem being siemens c2110 & have dwnld speeds around 20kbps:wall: ip add starting with 117. some of my frnds have dwnld speeds exceeding 150kbps:redface: i wnt to match their dwnld speeds what is port forwarding .... will it increase my general dwnld speeds i want to know the details about the portals from where i can check my acc usage. (remember i have a new connection) there is "bbservice.bsnl.in" but it doesnot show acc usage saying "Usage Details are not available due to regular maintenance activity" i cannot see the details using Dataone Quick usage finder by sunish isaac (how should i configure this) where do i go to see my email (website) and lastly i want to be clarified of the facts : (ie where i should use them) portal id user id broadband id my email id (bsnl) and which password goes where help!!!! thanks

Welcome to this forum .

You need to upgrade your firmwire of your modem. You will find the download link here:

C2110 (Type-A) ADSL MODEM MULTIUSER CONFIGURATION

Read carefully , download and install the new firmwire.

You can check usage at bbservice.bsnl.in which is currently down due to maintenance.

To access your mail service click here .



Use Portal id (14 digit typically)and portal password (by default it is password)to view your usage at bbservice.bsnl.in and change your portal and broadband password.

Use broadband id (as you have chosen) without ''@bsnl.in'' and password (by default it is password)to connect your internet and to access your mail service.

You should get a letter like this one :

Hi first things first.You did not mention which plan you are in.If u r in UL900 then u will get around 30kbps.But if you are in home 500/500c/250 u deserve a higher speed.
1)Go here->BSNL BROADBAND MAIN MENU
Choose your modem and read every bit of instruction there it is self explanatory.C2110 is especially a headache if it is not the Nokia siemens one.
2)yes bbservice.bsnl.in is down and hopefully shud be up in a few days
3)portal id is only logging for bbservice.bsnl.in and viewing account info,changing password,usuage ,etc.
4)broadband username is for connecting to BB surely you know that
5)Use your mail id in Login

You need to upgrade your firmwire of your modem. You will find the download link here:
my firmware version is E.37.7.37(default as i got it from bsnl) & i got modem on 27th dec last year.its working fine.i thought firmware upgrade is only necessary under extreme circumstances.some users have reported here that after upgrading their siemens c2110 firmware they can only use pppoe mode in their modem & not bridge mode.also firmware upgrade for this model is not reversible i think.meaning your default firmware can not be restored.

thanks y'all....i got iti'm on home 250i got the modem from bsnl_free (Nokia siemens c2110)and am not thinking about firmware upgrade right now:redface:what is port forwarding .... will it increase my general dwnld speeds - come againanyways could anyone explain what advantages i'd get in bridged mode(what it is and how to)

Port Forwarding

In bridge mode you can create a dialler and enter id and password in it and can connect and disconnect by clicking it.No need to save id and password into the modem.

i believe you dont need port forwarding if you are going to use bridged mode
