danglingball : Sob sob ... I was left with no option. 3g dongles dont give the desired results. Moreover with me working on linux dongles is a big pain with compatability issues.... I just want it to give me an avg speed..... 650 to 1 mb would work for me...... wont have heavy downloads
I am worried about the downtime though....

Silent_Shadow I would rather say be more worried about the hathway connection that you have opted for, than for the router. Hathway's connection will not work as promised. You may not get the promised speeds all the time, infact when needed.
Good luck.

Hello Guys... I was happy with the service that hathway offered for three months... now that I have renewed my subscription been facing issues.
I vented my frustration over here
== MouthShut not allowed here ==
Coming back to the problem statement --- I am not able to configure router with the new modem that hathway offered with the new plan
-They offered a new modem along with the new plan
- tech support is of no use... they are not sure if they have static or dynamic IP.. It should be dynamic
- I am able to get online using a wired setup ... but when I try to connect to the router it never works
- One more problem with the wired setup "Every time I detach the lan cable from the laptop and connect back I need to restart the modem" ... and this modem takes atleast 5 minutes to get online... whilst with the old setup I need not undergo this step ... and moreover restart would take only seconds for me to get online... its a piece of junk that I have now

Hathway Modem - Thomson
Router - D-Link DIR-600L Wireless N150 Cloud Router
Any bright ideas to get connected via wifi router ..... let me know if you need more info... appreciate your help

Silent_Shadow, sad to know, you are facing issues with hathway. But then, that is what hathway is all about...!
If you have got your own router, hathway won't care about that. The phone tech support is a bunch of novice guys who know nothing except restart the modem.
We got Cisco modems here in Mumbai, and yes it does take a while to get online. Previous ones were just fine.
To my knowledge all home broadband plans have a dynamic IP. If you login and log off at short intervals, IP may not change. However, it does change when you login after a long pause.
Not sure, but the router may not be compatible with the new modems that they have provided to you, even though they say it is compatible. Just check on that.
Thanks!

Hey .. I got it to work.... just a FYI in-case people have the same setup thought it will be useful....
- Its a dynamic IP as we already know
- As I mentioned one needs to restart the modem every time whenever we connect to different system in a wired setup; Found the workaround just run IP Release command. The base machine transmitting the signal retain the mac ID hence the issue
- Router is compatible with the new modem (Thomson TCM 471 & Router - D-Link DIR-600L Wireless N150 Cloud Router)
- If you get an error w.r.t card when trying to kick start the internet connection by going to login.hathway.com call the phone support and check if the MAC ID of the modem is configured at their end
- Router there is not much settings over there.. it seems mine was a configuration issue at the command center itself. One can always determine if the router is connected to the modem @ the command center. A guy knowledgeable enough got in touch with me post escalation .... and we worked together to get this resolved.
- As I mentioned there is nothing much that needs to be done @ router end --

[*]Connection = Dynamic IP
[*] Primary DNS = 0.0.0.0
[*]Secondary DNS = 0.0.0.0
[*]MTU = 1500 its default.....
[/list]Cheers ... Hope this helps someone...
