STATEMENT FROM VODAFONE ON EXTENDING EMERGENCY FACILITIES TO CUSTOMERS IN CHENNAI
To enable customers to remain connected in this precarious time in flood hit Chennai, Vodafone is offering pre-approved ‘chhota credit’ of Rs.10 to all pre-paid customers and a credit of 10 minutes for Vodafone to Vodafone calling. In addition, free 100MB mobile data is being offered to all customers with data enabled handsets. The validity of the talk time credit and free data is two days. For postpaid customers whose bills are due for payment immediately, the time to make the payment is being extended.

Chennai, these are testing times. Getting around the city is tough and the rains are expected to get worse over the next few days. We're working extremely hard with our driver partners to ensure a reliable ride to get around Chennai.

While we are helping transport supplies to relief camps, we've also disabled dynamic pricing and all rides taken in Chennai today and tomorrow will be free, to get you and your family from Point A to Point B safely.

A few things to be aware of:

Higher than normal ETAs: Please be patient as demand for rides is higher than usual. We are working very hard to get more cars on the road.

Limited Cars: Cars are extremely limited and it might be tough to find a ride. If you or your neighbour get an Uber, please share your ride to ensure all the cars on the road are utilised effectively.

JOIN US TO HELP BRING CHENNAI BACK ON ITS FEET #UBERCARE | India

Trucks, more than cars, have the ground clearance to traverse through waterlogged streets. Chennai is submerged after unprecedented rain battered the city we all call home, and we at Uber want to pitch in to help in whatever way we can. Besides offering free Uber rides all day, today starting 12PM, the uberCARE option in the app will include trucks carrying necessary supplies – medicines, food supplies and other essentials.

Through uberCARE, you can request a truck to come to your location to deliver supplies – to you and others in your neighbourhood who need them. If you know someone else or another location that would need these supplies, you can even set the location there and we’ll reach out to you to get more details.

Volunteers of uberCARE will be ready and available all day from 12PM to 7PM to deliver these with the help of our amazing partners – ThePorter and Bhoomika Trust – Thank You!

Lastly, if you or anyone you know wishes to volunteer or can spare food and medical supplies, contact us at support@uber.com or tweet using #uberCARE and we’ll try to arrange a pickup to use them to deliver to those who need it.
