From what I read, they do pay taxes in India so a lot of them have enrolled for Aadhaar as it became mandatory for paying income tax. I guess no one at enrollment centers bothered to inform them that they are not eligible for Aadhaar in the first place.

gotta love the whole situation.

and of course, a lot of enrollment centers have just disappeared. and the few remaining ask people to come early in the morning and take a token. and they process like 25-40 tokens every day so people are experiencing what poor people experience at ration shops on a monthly basis.

a friend of mine who moved to usa many years ago is also applying for aadhaar even though he is unlikely to be eligible for it.
