isn't heic already common in androids? i can opt in to it on my s10 lite. but it creates a lot of problems.

It's not common. Google photos support editing RAW files, but not HEIC files. Not even basic edits.

for me the problem was that most third party apps wouldn't get them as jpegs. forum for instance would upload heic file. after so many years, android does not handle on the fly conversion to jpegs for sharing in third party apps.

I wonder why it still hasn't been packaged with regular Windows updates. Considering iPhones are using the format for well over 3 years now or about 3 years.
