OpenDNS cud be best. Plus unlike other DNSes it allows some sort of customization.

WE can use any DNS we want or host our own, MTNL wouldn't care.

I am based at Ghaziabad indirapuram and taking pointers from this forum was really impressed by the concept of using opendns.Later when I did a simple ping test here are the results i got:OpenDNS: 208.67.222.222Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 551ms, Maximum = 576ms, Average = 564msBSNL DNS: 218.248.255.194Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 29ms, Maximum = 32ms, Average = 30msSo my question is that seeing the above speeds, should I still be using opendns ips?

If BSNL DNS is working fine, use that. No harm.I have to use opendns since BSNL DNS does not resolve some websites and is not any faster/slower. But this was some months ago.

Why ping time is only a partial measure of DNS speed Speed of DNS is determined by two main factors: network latency and software speed. Network latency is measured by ping time. although pings are better in case of bsnl dns.. bsnl dns servers being overloaded take time to convert domain names to ips .. thus slowing browsing speed..
