Introduction to Google Public DNS

# A malware-blocking service. Google Public DNS does not perform blocking or filtering of any kind.

Trying to indirectly mislead ppl against OpenDNS by using smartly placed words?
In addition, open DNS resolvers are vulnerable to being used to launch denial-of-service (DoS) attacks on other systems

ever since aviary released their chrome extension. i have dumped firefox for good too. it came pretty handy taking screenshots of web pages. :)

----------

heh. people who understand what dns is would know they are NOT talking about OPENDNS. :)

----------

as for chrome vs. firefox. chrome kicks firefox's ass at speeds even on fresh installations. :D

----------

and chrome as per the latest reports is nearing 5% market share. that's pretty good i think looking at the popularity of mozilla firefox as the number 1 alternative web browser. :)

----------

and nope i am not talking about this forum. i am saying it from the recently released stats from market research firms.

----------

time to check the stats of the forum :D

Google has rarely jumped into something without doing their homework. I bet Google's offering already has all of this, and much more. It is a case of catch up for OpenDNS and not really the other way round.

From how their system is working so perfect ever since launch, i can say that OpenDNS development team is very powerful. They have also expanded server to 8 locations now.

google is still long way. development is not impossible but not as easy as it seems.

i admit google is on right track of getting huge information of getting to know directly who is accessing what site. everybody uses google search, so from their they can get IP and then from DNS they get websites accessed.

opendns cannot give us indians our own local server. google can. :)

its just a mental thing, server in india or USA hardly makes much difference overall when u consider that it hardly takes 300ms as of now.

and from their website it seems that google has no plans to provide end-user security as of now.

end user security is anyways handled pretty well by the web browser. of course this is not for Internet Explorer 6 users. :D i am not defending google. but it is good to see a valid competition for opendns as they have been 'promoting' their paid services a lot more.

i would like you all to post your data. :)

comparing ping is wrong method. u need to compare DNS lookup times.

google is slower to respond to DNS query (even without malware site and my personal setting checks which opendns does)
