I dunno if this is old news, but I just found this out today after I created an account with OpenDNS.

I was already using OpenDNS' DNS servers in my network configuration and this does not require you to sign-up with them. When I saw a "sign up" button on their site I got curious to check out what they offer.

I was impressed with the web control they have. You can setup a dynamic IP account like DynDNS but there is not public hostname visible, its just for them to track your IP and preserve your settings.

They allow you to set options to block sites such as adult, phishing scams etc. You can also block sites individually by URL, or even "whitelist" individual sites. You can put your own small image which shows up on the blocked page, such a company logo or a picture of yourself.

This along with a HOSTS file downloaded from [ HOSTSFILE.MINE.NU ] [ HOSTS FILE PROJECT ]                                      you can setup a web control system like say Vista's parental controls to protect your users on the Net.

But is'int that an attack on our privacy? Will they be able to view the websites we visit?

Good to have them as a backup dns servers when having problem with isp dns servers .

how is it attack on privacy? any DNS provider can track sites u access (not content or pages). and if u dont want them to keep the record then simply dont use them.

yep, they can (and do) track the sites (the names/IPs not the contents) obviously since they have a stats page

but browsers etc just use DNS to convert the name (Example Web Page) to the IP address, then the connection is made directly so OpenDNS isn't in the picture anymore to snoop.
