If these companies want them to stop using other brands publicly, may be they should pay higher and make a contract.

that's the whole point of my argument. Nokia is not your typical small time brand. and Oppo needs all the support they can get. they are just insulting common sense by not making it mandatory in their contracts that the 'brand ambassador' would not be using a competitor's product in public space. as i have already mentioned, coke would never allow it. pepsi would never allow it. it's insane that companies like nokia have been ok with it for so long. hopefully microsoft would be more careful when the contracts are being renegotiated.

Yep if I hire a celebrity to promote a product, I will make sure that one of the top 10 points in contract includes:
"You will only use our phone publicly (which will be provided to you for free!)"

I remember one tweet from one Indian actress or someone on the new Blackberry phone (Z10 ??) praising it and at the end it was written "Sent from Twitter for iPhone" or something like that :P

In that case the celebrity will say "OK fine, increase the contract amount by 50% then".

I think it is worth it to pay extra if your 'brand ambassador' is seen using your phone in public events. That kind of promotion is probably worth more than the stupid ads on television and print media.

Right but not in the case of players like Oppo/Celkon etc as their margin per handset would be very less (guessing). I'm sure this clause would have come under discussion.

I can handle it for Oppo. But Nokia baffles me. And since the days when it was a dominant player in the Indian market. It has never bothered what their brand ambassadors are using online. Twitter is a very good platform to find out what these f**ks are using. Even for Oppo... They hired two bollywood stars. I still find it hard to imagine that they are fine with these actors using an iPhone in public space. I mean they are supposed to be your brand ambassadors not just actors that you hire to do a few ads here and there.

Well if your ad goes popular and then your celebrity is seen using other company's product. Then your company will become laughing stock on internet!
In this internet world such thing spread very rapidly, because even "that other company" will try to make sure that people notice it. ("hey look this celebrity promotes XYZ phone but personally uses our phone")
Is that worth saving extra money?
