Pakistan batsmen Sohaib Maqsood and Fawad Alam are under consideration to be appointed as captain of the national one-day side after the World Cup.

A well-informed source in the Pakistan Cricket Board said that the hierarchy of the board had ruled out a comeback for either Kamran Akmal and Shoaib Malik to the one-day squad.

In present circumstances the board is looking at two candidates to replace Misbah-ul-Haq as ODI captain and they are Sohaib Maqsood and Fawad Alam, the source confirmed.

Pakistan is just being Pakistan again. Someone not considered good enough in the first XI a month ago could be the new captain.

The PCB chairman, Shaharyar Khan, has decided to appoint Azhar Ali as captain of Pakistan's ODI side, ESPNcricinfo understands. Azhar, who was not a member of Pakistan's World Cup squad and has not played an ODI for two years, will succeed Misbah-ul-Haq after his retirement from the format.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named Azhar Ali Pakistan's new ODI captain, and Test vice-captain. Misbah-ul-Haq will remain the Test captain while Shahid Afridi will continue to lead the Twenty20 side. There were changes in the selection committee as well, with former batsman Haroon Rasheed appointed the new chief selector. The PCB for the first time introduced a bona fide vice-captain for each format. The appointment, according to the PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan, is not a long-term prospect but for the "time-being." Sarfraz Ahmed was named vice-captain for the limited-overs formats.
