Any alternatives to PayPal in India, my dear admin? :P

Not really a similar OR complete solution. But some sites support paying via billdesk OR ccavenue

ebay also has something called paisapay :D

Hmm, it's easier for them to say 'STOP USING PAYPAL' but its difficult for us to follow them.
Now, on topic. Any alternatives to PayPal in India, my dear admin? :P

Alertpay/Moneybookers/Liberty reserve/WMZ.

Paypal pretty much steals your money.Their exchange rate is always Rs 2 lower when you transfer it to your bank.Plus you pay Rs 50 for every withdrawal less than Rs 7000.Wire transfer is a better option than paypal but for freelancers paypal is the most preffered one.

Paypal works in India? I read somewhere that we cannot link our Indian bank accounts/cards with paypal.

Safest way is to only give PayPal your credit card. That too a prepaid credit card if possible. Never attach your bank account to your PayPal account. From my past experiences, PayPal is not worth handing over full control of your bank account. Recently, Paypal and Apple have glitch where user was charged multiple times for 1 OSX Lion purchase. Discussion here. Both Apple and PayPal are passing the buck on each other. This can happen between any merchant and PayPal.

Infact, you can only use Credit Card for all your online purchases. A good credit card company will always fight on your side because it is their money which is being used.

paypal connects with both bank accounts and credit cards in india. but i think payments can only be made through the credit card.

That's correct, you can verify paypal using either but you can send outgoing payment through CC only that too only to non indian Paypal customers.

There is no way you can transfer fund to an Indian paypal account having indian paypal account

That is because of strict RBI guidelines which is very good. PayPal is not a bank and they try to behave like one.
