Hi All,From past some time, I have been looking at the advts claiming 21mbps speeds for the wireless usb internet.I want to know that - has anybody tried this 21 mbps ultra high speed device? - how is the connection performance in terms of data down-link speed? - what are the options available in the market for 21 mbps modem, apart from TATA DOCOMO and Airtel?Actually, I already have the MTS MBlaze wireless modem (Noida connection), which I am using in Bangalore and I am not happy with the connection speed. 3.1 mpbs appears to be a fantasy which includes fairies, witches, innocent & expectant user and a hope to actually get the speeds to the tune of half of the claimed one. This is the reason that I am planning to dump my MTS and purchase a new USB wireless connection.Should I go for 21 mbps right away or stick to the 3.1 or 7.2 mbps devicesI know that I have included a hell lot of topics and I am ready to blame it on my naivety.Gagan

Hi All,

From past some time, I have been looking at the advts claiming 21mbps speeds for the wireless usb internet.

I want to know that
- has anybody tried this 21 mbps ultra high speed device?
- how is the connection performance in terms of data down-link speed?
- what are the options available in the market for 21 mbps modem, apart from TATA DOCOMO and Airtel?

Actually, I already have the MTS MBlaze wireless modem (Noida connection), which I am using in Bangalore and I am not happy with the connection speed. 3.1 mpbs appears to be a fantasy which includes fairies, witches, innocent & expectant user and a hope to actually get the speeds to the tune of half of the claimed one.

This is the reason that I am planning to dump my MTS and purchase a new USB wireless connection.
Should I go for 21 mbps right away or stick to the 3.1 or 7.2 mbps devices

I know that I have included a hell lot of topics and I am ready to blame it on my naivety.

Gagan

I have tried using Airtel & Tata Docomo on Huawei UMG1831 USB Modem(21 Mbps Capable) sometime ago and remember getting speeds of about 5-6 Mbps max, BSNL hovering around 1.5 to 2 Mbps on my Galaxy Tab.
Airtel connection was pretty stable when i tested by downloading 600-700MB(how much ever the Ubuntu 10.10 download was for), was blazing fast but like we all know at equally blazing prices. Tata Docomo was also fine but i didn't get to test it for more than 50-100MB because of some issues with the 2g/3g migration(i was duped by Tata Store lady who activated a 2g plan instead of 3g saying it was some special offer for a lesser price), main account balance getting deducted for no reason etc. their customer care was pathetic & could not solve the issue, hence gave up & moved onto Airtel 3g.

BSNL has also been stable in my area of usage(Vijayanagar & Domlur), gives stable DL of 1.5 to 2Mbps at most times and also is less expensive compared to other providers. However one should be prepared to deal with bad service like recharge option at times not working on BSNL's website which is the only other option apart from visiting the local BSNL exchange for 3g Data recharge(even local mobile stores don't have data recharge coupons), main account balance cannot be used for Data Recharge but it gets deducted after the data coupon validity or if data limits have expired, latest being USSD number codes to check data balance not working hence we have to use 3g data tracker instead - Calling their customer care for these problems usually does not help. I currently use this a mobile broadband option with usage of around 1gb/month on my Samsung Galaxy Tab.

Whats the best iPhone friendly Data Plan for Vodafone (my primary/current ISP) or any other Competitor ISP in India.. specifically Bombay.. ? I wouldnt mind getting a 2nd pre or post paid SIM just for Data..

Depends on how much you want to invest & what's your usage. I've heard from the friends on Airtel connection that iPhone 3g Data Plan are the same as normal 3g plan tariff but this is in Bangalore, Karnataka

Vodafone claims up to 21 mbps but never exceeds 6 or 7 mbps.

Although i very much agree with you, this is the same claim & actual of any 3g mobile provider across the globe.
Again goes back to the math of what is theoretically achievable by the particular technology(in this case HSPA+) as against practical, actual speeds experienced by end users
