I do no think its completely unsustainable considering many people don't use the full storage allotted to them and because Koofr and PCloud both have subscription based plans as well with more storage which would help cover the 'lifetime' users.

Its not like Google's 'unlimited' Drive which they used to offer until data hoarders started 'abusing' it.

Another way you can have an offsite backup is having another NAS at a relative's house in a different city. You can use ZeroTier or TailScale to access it without any port forwards.

YouTube will destroy the video quality. So if one is okay with it, sure.

Use two hard disk to keep data, chances of both failing is less than lifetime plan offering company randomly stopping their services.

Glacier is a great suggestion for last case backup. Though it's annoying that Amazon doesn't make it easy to prepay for a long period. Monthly payments get annoying. Always have a remote backup of data you don't want to lose

Dell Optiplex is pretty good too instead of rpi. But HDDs are a problem in India.
