Recently changed to a 2Mbps plan from 512kbps.Plan got changed correctly on the first of this month but to my utter surprise my speed did not change accordingly(/sarcasm).
Found several threads with similar complaints and people reporting as much as one month time taken for the problem to be rectified.Called 1504,they straight away told me they can't do anything about it and provide me with a number 24361221.Again to my surprise nobody would pick up the phone or it would remain engaged(more sarcasm),something which has again been mentioned several times in the forum.
Now here's the helpful part atleast I couldn't find anywhere.I look up the number on mtnl's website and find the address to DGM(Internet) in Prabhadevi.I went to the Prabhadevi exchange and inside to the Telecom building(the red one) as mentioned.I start getting second thoughts as this really didn't look like a place to solve my problem.Anyway,I tell the receptionist I had Triband related problem and I need to go the server room on the 6th floor(as mentioned in the address).she tells me go to the 8th floor instead.Loiter around a bit end up in the actual server/switching room(you know,tall server towers).Had an awkward moment with people staring at me wondering what the hell I was doing there.No sarcasm tags here,I was expecting to be frowned at atleast having made myself without permission to such a sensitive area but instead I found the most politest people you could see.I began explaining my problem and one of them told me to meet a Mr Shelkar on the 6th floor and assured me my problem would be solved.
What I needed to do was go to the 6th floor and then to the extreme right of the floor hallway,there is a room to the left in the end where I met Mr. Shelkar(Who is the Sub Division Engineer btw),another polite gentleman, along with a bunch of other people on computers whose sole purpose I think was to rectify the speed issue.I explained my situation to Mr.Shelkar who understood immediately,entered my phone number in their software which provided all the details of my account and surely enough I saw the speed was set to 512kbps Unlimited(Only speed.He selected my plan from the drop down box and that was it really.They should do it along with the plan change really,he said in the end.I agreed and thanked him and left.Came home,rebooted router and surely enough found myself synced to 2Mbps.The whole effort took around 2 hours(stay close by,Sion) and around 100 bucks for the taxi but I don't see a more surefire way of making this happen.(/me ends blabbering)
