You can install multiple JREs on the same PC. Once you have done that, Go to control panel->"java plug in" ands select which version of JRE should be used for IE.

hehe.. i tried that with firefox (linux) but then i was forced to run vmware/win98/IE as that site was using some kind of activex for digital signatures.

I guess it is still better to pay 200 Rs to CAs for doing the filling. They are doing this electronic thing for the first time....

i did it (e-filing) last year. and will do this year too.

Well, this thing has been introduced this year itself (for salaried). You must have filed with "intermediary" like some bank or you might have filed as business.

e-filing is perfectly simple as the pdf doc is only a scan of the hardcopy form. It's the digital signature part where the problem occurs

n BTW, e-filing is gonna be made mandatory for individuals as well in a couple of years

@ Karan...have u tried signing the forms digitally??

i just filed my return. using Firefox and linux. and digitally signed too. what u can try is install JRE 1.6 too.. use JRE 1.6 plugin in FF and 1.4 in IE.

Well it can ONLY be made compulsory if each and every part of India has electricity at least.

How else a landlord in remote villages will file a return. Not they file even today, but making it mandatory is something different.

@amish, from where did you buy Cert? From MTNL?

i guess they would have a connection provided in a government office in the region like the post office. and people would be able to fix their taxes from those places.i am going to use my dad's CA.

@netfreak: yes MTNL@sushubh: u cant use ur dad's CA for ur return.
