Vibranium

took another beating for Cap
I use two Airtel mobile connections; one postpaid another prepaid. Unlike most IBF members, I have never had any significant issues with Airtel in general. The prepaid connection, of which I speak, is my primary number - ten years and counting. Prepaid is nifty. On the other hand, having the ability to pay later is considerable in postpaid.

Airtel lets you share data between two (or more) connections. From what it appears, both connections are required to be from the same segment. Sharing data between a prepaid and postpaid connection is not possible (?)

Airtel myPlan Family sounds like an option. If you use (have used) myPlan Family, please share your experience.

We are a family of four and we are using myPlan family. Basically Airtel makes one number a primary number(you can see it as a parent number) and other numbers as dependents of the primary number( children of the parent number). Now whatever plan you choose will be shared by all numbers(4 in my case).
It's a good plan for a family as it reduces wastage of unused calling minutes or data or sms etc. I have to pay a single bill for a family of 4.
My own plan is Rs 800 + taxes and my bill for the 2 last month's has been about Rs. 950. I must point out that I have airtel broadband + fixed lines with unlimited calling both at my office as well as my home which means that our family do not use our airtel mobile connection that much for data or calling.
For a prepaid connection you have to keep recharging for data and minutes and sms etc. which means that you have to recharge 3 times a month per connection. So for 4 connections I had to recharge 12 times a month. Also Airtel kept changing schemes especially for data and I had to waste my time keeping track of these changes.
No with this family plan , no more hassles.

@neeraj0272 thanks for the information. I agree, it is quite inconvenient to keep track of recharge packs. And the other major difference is customer support. I have gold support on both connections, but I find postpaid customer support more willing to help. Also, questions:

1. Does the parent number get any additional advantage over its children?
2. Postpaid bills come in handy as Proof of Address. If I add my family members under the family plan, would their names be mentioned in the consolidated bill?
3. The Rs.199 yearly (child) plan. Does it entail any other (hidden) monthly charges for the child number?

1. You will get a bill detailing usage of minutes(calling details), sms & internet by each member.
2. As I said above each members name and telephone number is mentioned in the consolidated bill.
3. No other charges. Although it's only Rs. 200 yearly for the child connection.
3. If you want you can change your plan yourself although it's restricted to changing once a month.

Ooh, very well!

Rs. 199 annually is cheaper than keeping a prepaid connection active (Rs. 200 / 180 days).

Yes, I see the option to select myPlan Family in Airtel My Account. If I activate the desired family plan from here, would it let me link an existing postpaid connection as child?

If yes, how do I go about doing this?

I think Airtel customer care will contact you and do the necessary work.
In my case they shifted 2 Airtel prepaid and helped me port 1 vodafone prepaid to my myPlan family connection.
