Problem of connecting to the internet in ubuntu

My two cents..... It's always a good idea to configure the modem to auto login. You need to configure modem with pppoe and you need to provide your username and pasword in the pppoe config page of the modem. Enable DHCP on the LAN configuration of the modem. Reboot the modem. You should see the ADSL lights blinking and then glowing in the modem.Connect your modem to your Linux box using an ethernet cable (no USB connections please). Enable Linux box to automatically get an IP address using DHCP: i) open up /etc/network/interfaces ii) Make sure you have these auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp iii) Remove all the static ethernet config that you might have in this file.iv) Restart the neworking service using the following command /etc/init.d/networking restartI guess you'll be good to reach out to the Internet.
