MTNL
Hi guys This is my first post here, though I've been hanging around for quite some time reading posts. I have a MTNL broadband connection, 256kbps/unlimited. Every two months, something or the other goes wrong with the connection and it takes at least a week to get it corrected (last time, it took over a month). Today, for instance, the ADSL light would just keep on blinking without getting stable, and the LAN light wouldn't come on (I've checked all the obvious solutions - plugging in wire, etc.) Now I don't want to get rid of this connection because I get good speeds. Also, because of a glitch at their end, I get download speeds of 2mbps even though my connection is 256kbps unlimited (I upgraded from a 2mbps connection, so perhaps that's why) But I work on the internet so its vital for me to stay online. So I want a secondary connection that I can use as a backup whenever MTNL starts giving me trouble. Obviously I want something cheap (say 400-600 bucks a month). The most obvious choice would be Airtel. But they don't offer their services in my locality. Next is Tata Indicom, but all their plans are Rs. 1000+. That's more than the money I'm willing to spend. Next is Reliance Broadband. They have decent plans but I'm not sure of their quality...any opnions on that? Or should I get one of those wireless USB modems sold by Airtel and Indicom? Are they any good as backup internet? Or should I simply get one more MTNL connection (keeping the current one)? Any ideas, suggestions would be of great help guys. Thanks

Reliance has a pretty poor service record. They make their plans attractive, so that people join in, but their CS is pretty poor and there is a lot of downtime. Reliance have also added a horrible FUP, lately. You don't seem to be interested in TATA due to the prices. I'd stick with MTNL, if I was you.

Use mtnl as ur main connection and get an edge enabled sim for ur backup speeds are pretty good around 25kbps with airtel

get garuda u/l internet usb dongle - Rs. 300 pm subscription and Rs. 2786 one-time - u get speed between 50 - 100 kbps (though the claim is for 144 kbps)

I too looked but could not find it . Looks like Mumbai is MTNL's step child oops milch cow:whistle:

I have tried Garuda unltd in mumbai, costs 299Rs a month. But runs at dialup speed.

i would say Stick with MTNL...register a complaint when the net goes down at 1504..MTNL will fix it up.If they fail to do, ring the area manager and Report the matter there..Sarkari babus take sometime to get their work done but eventually they will do it.Am on same plan as ur's but most issues get sorted out in a day or two.
