I get disconnected every hour or so. I don't know whether it is MTNL or Huawei UMG1831.

^yup, I faced disconnection problem few days back but it is back to normal now,but no improvement in dw/up speeds

I have one more information. It gets disconnected only when I download data continuously.
Today I am not downloading and did a little web browsing, so it is connected for 10 hours.

What does it mean? Is this a modem issue?

Chances for modem being not working properly are very less,it is N/W's problem.

Modem reconnects in the next second after disconnecting. I guess modem disconnects because it is not able to handle the data. ???

chances of this issue are very less as u are not the only one who is facing disconnection on MTNL 3g.But only way to check yr modem is to test ur sim in other modem or chech ur modem in some other areas in delhi
