Argentina is attacking with Lionel Messi in front. You wait in anticipation as he deftly dribbles the ball past the defenders, sprints down the left flank and sends a cross to Diego Milito when the Tata Sky connection suddenly goes blank, leaving the screen blue and you seeing red.

Fans following the World Cup on direct-to-home connections are bracing for more such blackouts in the middle of big matches with service providers doing little to cure satellite television of a familiar monsoon malady.

“I have been looking up the weather forecast in the newspaper every morning just to find out whether my DTH signal will stay when I am watching the Cup matches of the day,” Tata Sky subscriber and Brazil fan Swarup Roy told Metro.

Calcutta has three lakh-odd DTH subscribers who are forced to put up with total link failure or loss of picture quality not only during heavy rain but sometimes even when it drizzles.

“I wonder why they haven’t been able to fix this technical snag for so long. It’s so irritating, especially now that the Cup is underway,” said Tata Sky subscriber Sarbani Saha, who endured one such blackout during Tuesday’s France-South Africa clash.

Metro tried contacting Tata Sky’s chief marketing officer Vikram Mehra but he did not answer calls to his cellphone.

Subscribers of Dish TV, Sun Direct, Airtel Digital TV and Big TV said they faced picture problems during a downpour but not total signal loss.

Some disruptions in picture and sound is common to all DTH service providers during showers because the charged field created by friction between the raindrops and air particles interferes with the electromagnetic beams carrying the signals.

Tata Sky is becoming a bigger mess by the day. Of late I haven't faced any disruptions due to rain - because it hardly rains here - but then the picture quality has definitely degraded

It is a shame to publish such reports. One can easily make out how untrue, biased and selective the report is. Singur once again; let some Calcutta members answer this.

I totally dont agree to that report. I was an early subscriber of DishTV in the initial DTH days when Tsky was not launched. And DishTV had a worse reception during rains, their engineers were not well trained, my antenna had once got misaligned which gave me intermittent signal issues, and I had to shuttly through their IVR, distributor and engineers banging my head to try to avail a service. Then I switched to Tsky and I'm much better off, the rain issue is there, not as bad as it was with dishTV, but since all of them have similar sized antennas, maybe the LNB made the difference. But yes, Tsky should provide with an option for bigger antenna if that can make a huge difference I dont mind shelling out few bucks more.EDIT: Also wanna add, the tskyHD stb seems to have some improvement over the issue. I've both the old SD stb and the HD one, and during one of the rains the old stb lost connection while the HD one was still transmitting. Both were connected with the same antenna.

^ Would it really have something to do with the STB? Isn't it the receiver which really matters. The STB really deciphers the signal. Or does it do more?

Totally Biased Report.Rain disruption is not a problem only alienated to Tata Sky.If zeesports is such a issue,then what about the lack of neo sports and neo cricket on dish tv?
