Thats too much of usage.....mine shows just 940 MBs.....of course, i am on XP!!Still this 2.64 GB & 1.17 GB looks too much, given the fact that u r using just 2-3 apps at a time.

i do have a bunch of background apps running on this machine.

i clean them up of so often. if i end up running everything that the motherboard CD wanted to do, this machine would be crawling right now.

on a brand new Dell laptop, you can easily disable a bunch of apps that dell loads up on your machine. the dell's own apps are worthless to run all the time. so disable them all using msconfig.

Oh, thats a really useful tip!! I didnt knew, and i used simple Printscreen till now!!

Yup snipping tool, that's what I use,
No Complain about RAM noww as it's under 1.5 even when I am multi tasking
I know not much load but still, it's doing fine I guess:

I am just worried about battery, as, I am keeping the lowest settings, even I have manually lowered the brightness from the Graphic properties.
The battery just keeps dropping by 1% every 3 minutes.
Is there anything I can do to put it to test, to see if I am being given a deffective one?

i have had bad experience with Dell and their laptop batteries. i can pretty much assure you that your battery would not last for more than 1.5 years. also... to save the battery from quicker failure... disconnect power supplies as soon as the battery is fully charged. and only charge them once you are nearing the 5-10% mark. battery would last longer that ways. best tip i would give you? if you do most of your work on a proper desktop where a power connector is available. stop using the battery and use the laptop on power supplies all the time :P

That's what I was thinking just remove the battery and use it like that.
I am pretty much screwed by seeing that battery doesn't even last 2 hours GRRRRR Jeeez!!!
Aye! Wait a second, these people are saying don't let the charge go down less than 40% and you said 5-10%
lol my bad they are talking about storage :P

Lithium-ion Battery prefers a partial rather than a full discharge, frequent
full discharges should be avoided when possible.

Keep the rechareable Dell Li-ion battery cool. Avoid a hot situation. For
prolonged storage, keep the Inspiron 1520 Inspiron 1720 GK479 at a 40% charge
level. Do not short-circuit. A short-circuit may cause severe damage to the
battery. Through the above Suggestions, you can take better care of your dell
Inspiron battery replacement. You need them for your daily life.

How To take care your dell battery? When using a laptop as a desktop
replacement the battery should not be left in for long periods of time. The
laptop will over time discharge the laptop battery. Remove the battery, making
sure that it is charged to 50% and store it in a dry, warm place. Ensure that it
is wrapped protectively and nothing will be dropped on it.

The battery should be re-installed every 3-4 weeks and allowed to fully
discharge. Leaving a battery in storage for longer than this without using could
cause the battery to fully discharge as the circuitry of the Dell battery itself
consumes power.

hmm. 40% might be a bit too much. but its fine. just do not recharge it too often when you do not need it. it sucks actually. my Dell's battery died within a year because i kept it on charge pretty much all the time :Pand the model i had... there are plenty of complaints related to its battery on the web. so many that i believe dell was practically cheating the customer. a lot of people reported their battery dying around the 12 months mark. the warranty on the battery is just for 12 months. and the new batteries are expensive. 12-15K here in India. around 10K in USA. i got a battery from a third party source. it seemed to work fine on average load. but as soon as i started some processor intensive task, the laptop would reboot, that meant that the battery was not able to handle the load. that was when i gave up on laptops. wife's macbook has worked out pretty well in comparison. her model is the last macbook to feature a removable battery. 2.5 years later, that laptop still gives around 1 hour of battery life. initially it gave around 3-4 hours. that is the only thing i have appreciated about Apple. they do well in terms of battery. both on iPhones and macbooks.

After reading your post I just took out the power cable lol :D
Yeah, that's what I was thinking, it's better to wait and save to get a Mac rather than cheapo and looking for a charge all the time.

Check which process is taking high RAM
Process which is takinig high RAM? It's iexplore*32- 32,068K

actually... Dell's consumer range comes with crappy batteries. if you look at their SMB laptops... they have much better batteries. but these are not good looking laptops. :) i am talking about their latitude and vostro range. my wife also has a dell vostro laptop given to her from office and it's batteries last for much longer compared to what my inspiron did.
