Sun TV Network channels went off the air in most places in Madurai city following an instant migration of local cable operators from Maran-owned Sumangali Cable Vision (SCV) to Azhagiri-owned Royal Cable Vision (RCV) launched on June 09.

Caught in the cable tiff were housewives who passionately watch the mega serials telecast on Sun TV. They choked the phone lines and flooded the local cable operators with angry queries about the sudden blackout of the Sun Network since Tuesday morning.

Only those who had installed Sun Direct (Direct-to-Home Service) could watch the Sun channels without any interruption. A prolonged blackout could see more of cable connected homes switch over to Sun's DTH, which is yet to take off among the middle and low income groups.

A. M. Kannan, President, Madurai Cable TV Operators Association, said, \"With the presence of 30 MSOs, a total of 450 cable operators function in the city. While only 100 of them are with SCV, the major chunk of operators shifted their loyalty to RCV. Moreover, the dealers of pay channels like Raj, Vijay, Jetix and Discovery have inked pact with RCV to relay their channels. We do not have any problem in telecasting Jaya TV programmes too.\"

Sensing stiff competition, SCV jumped the guns a week ago by giving cable operators 50 percent concession in the charges towards every cable connection. But Azhagiri had told a meeting of cable operators after the launch of RCV on Monday that he was aware of their difficulties assured them a share in the profits.

Meanwhile, a scroll announcing that Sun TV firm has been delaying its telecast service to RCV despite the latter's appeal, is on in areas where Sun channels have been blacked out.

RCV is very hopeful of getting Sun package. \"This is only a business. When we have the network, they have no other alternative but to come to us in near future,\" Kannan said.

:rofl::rofl:

btw, SCV is now been targeted in tamil nadu.. maran should now concentrate on Sun DTH

It is a sun setting time for the DMK. Stalin supports Maran brothers but Azhagiri said there is no relationship not only with Maran brothers and also with who has relationship with marans. Stalin has lot of experience in politics but Azhagiri does not have either direct exposure with people or experience. the enimity will ruin everything.Along with vijay tv sundirect is an excellent offer for money for TN people. if Azhagiri grows with enimity sun dth will grow with more power. people will simply shift to Sun direct.

sn direct official told DC that they r gettin lot of orders from madurai area....... he also told that they r sending lot of technicians & equipment to meet d demand

yes, people are really disappointed by political linked cable war in madurai.. as sun dth only dth will low cost and has full network in tamilnadu.. there are going to gain by this war sure.. because they also have good expertise in the field

An SCV official said that RCV’s blackout of Sun TV channels has only resulted in a huge demand for Sun Direct. “We are moving additional equipment and technicians to Madurai to meet the demand, which only proves that people want to watch Sun TV at any cost,” he said. QUOTES FROM DECCAN CHRONICLE

Sun TV continues off air in Madurai
The poaching by Royal Cable Vision (RCV) into Sumangali Cable Vision (SCV) territory increased to a staggering 70 per cent in Madurai city forcing more number of viewers to miss Sun TV's bouquet of channels. With SCV refusing to give its Sun network signals to RCV, the cable war is only building up by the day.

''We have not compelled anyone to shift from SCV to RCV. The cable operators, who were suffering at the hands of the SCV until now, have grabbed the opportunity after the launch of RCV. Cut up by SCV's monopoly, the cable operators have volunteered to come under the RCV fold,'' RCV officials said.

With 30 head-end operators and 450 link operators, the city has two lakh cable connections. After chief minister M. Karunanidhi's son Azhagiri launched RCV in the city on Monday, the monopoly of Maran-owned SCV has suffered a severe setback within 74 hours.

Despite SCV refusing to relay its pay channels through RCV, the cable operators are increasingly moving towards the latter unmindful of the viewers who have been denied the opportunity to watch their favourite programmes on Sun.

But the cable operators seem to be happy now. ''They (SCV) have been dictating terms thus far. And we have all along obliged them. Now, it is a turnaround situation where we have been invited by RCV management to share even its profits,'' A. M. Kannan, General secretary, Madurai Cable TV Operators Association, said.

Azhagiri has asked the operators to collect charges ranging from Rs 100 to Rs 130 for a cable connection depending upon the locality.

An SCV official said that RCV's blackout of Sun TV channels has only resulted in a huge demand for Sun Direct. \"We are moving additional equipment and technicians to Madurai to meet the demand, which only proves that people want to watch Sun TV at any cost,\" he said.
