TDSAT to hear Azhagiri petition Chennai, June 13: In a gross deviation from procedure the Telephone Dispute, Settlements and Apellate Tribunal (TDSAT) will hear the petition of Royal Cable Vision on a holiday in the midst of its vacation. The petition by RCV, floated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunandhi’s Madurai-based son M.K. Azhagiri, would be heard by TDSAT Chairman Arunkumar on Saturday, reportedly at the behest of Union Communications Minister A. Raja. The tribunal normally does not hold hearings during its vacation, which ends only on June 28 and on holidays.
The petition seeks TDSAT to instruct Sun TV to give its satellite signals to RCV to be distributed in Madurai and other southern districts in Tamil Nadu. In his petition RCV MD Durai Dayanidhi Azhagiri, son of the DMK strongman, has argued that under the “Free Airway Policy” no broadcaster can deny access to his programmes to anyone who wants them for viewing and distribution. The Supreme Court had upheld this policy in one of its judgments stating that no broadcaster can distribute his signals selectively.Azhagiri had floated his RCV to challenge the dominance of SCV owned by Maran.

definetly judgement will come one r two months..at the mean time many will change to sun dth.....also ACV also Question mark in madurai areas.............poor strategy followed by MR.Alagri

Cable TV losing business in Madurai
As viewers missed SUN TV Network channels for the sixth day on Sunday after the launch of the Royal Cable Vision (RCV), backed by M K Azhagiri, son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, a body of cable TV owners on Sunday appealed to the government to soon launch its own cable TV operations to save their business. Tamilnadu Cable TV owners and Consumers Welfare Association President T V Ramesh said that in view of the standoff between the RCV and the SCV, owned by Maran brothers, the cable operators were losing business. Already 1,500 Direct To Home (DTH) connections had been sold in the city.
He also alleged that \"ruling party men are threatening us to join the RCV. Our subscribers will not pay the money for this month as we did not give them Sun network channels.\"
Since the launch of the RCV here last week, SUN TV channels had been blocked and the former had accused the latter of not providing the feed to them.
The order of the TRAI asking RCV to approach Sun Network with details for obtaining its feed would only further delay the process, and \"our operations would be paralysed till the dispute is resolved,\" he said.
Ramesh also met Janata Party President Dr.Subramanian Swamy and sought his intervention.
He told Swamy that they were being harassed by the ruling partymen and forced to join the RCV. But they could not do so in view of the public's interest in the SUN Network serials.
More than 50 per cent of the TV viewers in and around Madurai were not able to watch popular serials broadcast by the SUN NETWork as it was off the air for the sixth day on Sunday.
A tense atmosphere prevailed in the cable industry as a big chunk of the cable operators moved to the RCV from SCV.
Though the SUN Netork had asked for details of number of cable connections etc from the RCV, it need not accept the figures given by their rival, leading to further delay in RCV getting SUN Network connection, industry sources said.
The cable rivalry had also claimed the jobs of three officials of the Public relations department, who had been temporarily suspended for helping Azhagiri to hold a press meet in connection with the launch of the RCV.
The viewers were mounting pressure on head end operators subscribing to RCV to show Sun Network channels.

Cable 'war' dashes rapproachement chances between Marans, TN CM

The ongoing cable TV 'war' between Maran brothers and M K Azhagiri, Madurai-based son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, has further intensified the feud between the two families, dashing chances of rapproachement. SCV, run by Kalanidhi and Dayanidhi, grandnephews of Karunanidhi, has not given its feed to the Royal Cable TV (RCTV), launched recently by Azhagri's son in Madurai.
As a result, viewers, whose cable operators had switched over to the RCTV in and around the city, are unable to watch popular channels like the Sun TV and KTV beamed by the Marans' SUN TV network.
Piqued by the 'non-cooperation' of SCV, of which former Union minister Dayanidhi Maran is the Managing Director, the RCTV moved the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) seeking a direction to SCV to supply the feed. But the application was withdrawn as TRAI felt it lacked material.
AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa, who never misses an opportunity to take on her arch political rival Karunanidhi, issued a statement, condemning Azhagiri for 'intimidiating other cable TV operators not to beam SUN TV programmes and alleged that the people of Madurai were living in fear.
Her statement was given a prominent display in the Tamil daily Dinakaran, owned by the Maran brothers, which reportedly angered Karunanidhi.
Consequently, the DMK high command issued a statement on June 26, ordering partymen not to have any truck with the daily and not to give news or advertisements to it
