probably. some of the biggest subreddits (like r/worldnews) that are not participating are supposedly managed by mods/admins on reddit's payroll. so it's a possibility that they could just remove the mods of participating mods and move control to their own contractors. would probably result in an even bigger shitshow.

most of the subreddits should be public after 2 days i believe. some are planning to remain locked out till api issue is resolved. i believe r/videos is one of the largest one planning to stay locked. /trees is another one.

how come there are so few subreddits 🤔
 
They r probably going dark by their local timezone. It's Monday officially in the US and I can see a lot of them have gone private.
