Bharti Airtel says against tariff war
Bangalore: Bharti Airtel Ltd, the largest mobile phone operator by subscribers, on Tuesday said it will not give in to competitive pressures and slash its call rates.
Manoj Kohli, chief executive officer and managing director of Bharti Airtel, said the telecom company was looking to maintain its revenue leadership in the market and would not blindly chase market share.
Kohli was responding to a query whether his company would cut tariff to align it to Reliance Communications' new tariff plan of 50paise per minute for all local and national calls.
"We will not react to competition. We have own strategy and will pursue it. We will maintain our revenue market share. We have been increasing our revenue market share every quarter," he said.
Bharti Airtel, which has a subscriber-base of over 100 million, is already charging 50paise per minute for local and national long-distance calls within its own network.
Its rival Tata Docomo has intensified competition in the market with its one-second billing plan.
Kohli gave a thumps down to telecom regulator - Telecom regulatory Authority of India (Trai) - plans to radically overhaul the mobile phone billing by making one-second pulse a mandatory option for all operators. "India doesn't want to talk fast. India wants to talk slow," he said.leasehelp:
