Rx power decreases in BSNL FTTH

Optical RX unstable would mean packet loss or complete loss of connection , but not decrease in speed due to nature of technology. even packet loss due to low RX is very less probable, only real concern is frequent or random disconnections that might happen.

this is my understanding, because light in fiber either reaches the destination or gets attenuated and lost in between, it wont go slow or something.

Hi guys, my RX power currently stands at -26.77. Getting frequent disconnections. Is it due to low RX power? BTW, how much downtime you guys face on average? Does it disconnects frequently, or once in month?

I face disconnections only when there's break in line somewhere. Haven't had such issues since past 15-20 days. The last time it occurred, entire town's BSNL internet was shut due to breakage of main line somewhere. They took nearly 3 hours to fix it. But it's acceptable I think. There's no ISP with zero downtime.

Rx levels at your end seem to be just hitting the boundary of disconnection. As per other forum members, -27dBm is where you should call up your LCO or TIP. Also check your fiber cable connection at the ONT end. The patch cord should be inserted properly. Fibre cable shouldn't have any sharp turns. With all of that verified, if still Rx is low and frequent disconnections are observed, inform LCO or raise a complaint through selfcare portal.
