SC makes it clear: Govt will have to ban Porn

Yup. It's insane that even removable shades are considered illegal in some cities. I have not faced problems in Gurgaon yet. But I would take everything off if I was traveling to Chandigarh.

The government's stance might get reversed once BJP comes to power...
I'm worried about that, but hopefully they'll have more import things to deal with and this will get forgotten about.

Well. They cannot ignore directives from the Supreme Court can they? Knowing how populist BJP has been for the last couple of months, more PILs might be filed targeted sensitive issues.

Government asks internet service companies to block pornography sites, upgrade systems

Prasad said although porn is legal in other countries, it needs to be viewed in the "context of Indian culture and moral obligation towards society".

The department of telecom had said large-scale blocking of websites could slow the Internet down, unless services providers upgrade their infrastructure.

"The problem is that you are veering down a slippery ground if you try to do this, installing filters and all," said Prasanth Sugathan, counsel for the Software Freedom Law Centre. Such blocks have been ineffective in countries such as the UK. However, in China, where the ban on online pornography is strictly enforced,it is another story, as that country has people dedicated to monitoring content, he said.

Excellent.

I guess, there is role of BroadBand ISPs behind this... If porn is blocked, then the total downloaded data from UnLimited users will immediately reduce to half and they can add more subscribers and more profit... :giggle:

Next Supreme Court will frame a new rule "Death sentence for m@strubation"...

There is a lot more than porn on filehosts and torrents, so if those are blocked then downloaded data will reduce quite a bit.
