Seagate, Samsung launches their own 1 Terabyte Hard Disks Samsung and Seagate have both announced the launch of 1TB hard disk products. Incidentally, they are late considering Hitachi Global Storage Technologies has already launched similar products nearly two months ago! Seagate announced that their Barracuda ES.2 and Barracuda 7200.11 would be shipped to the market in [...]

While I'm generally happy at cheaper/larger storage, there's one question that stumps me a bit On the one hand we are searching for more efficient data compression technologies. On the other hand, we are greedy for bigger and bigger storage... I have friends with 80gig IPods and lotsa vids and frankly all their stuff has rarely crossed 60-70 gigs ever. At some point surely the 'twain shall meet' and efficient data compression will ensure we need less storage space.. Of course this applies more for personal use. I'm sure offices/ businesses can eat up any amount of storage!

Well it depends from person to person , i have a friend who has 2*250 gb har drives but still wants more space because they are fullit usually applies to ppl who store :* All the music from 1950 to 2007 (hindi and english)* love dumping dvd images - thinking that they may lose their dvds* have a 10 mp digi cam and store tons of photos on their pc* love making regular backups * like wav more than mp3:hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:

You're right..earlier we used to collect physical trash and we had to spring clean because the room/ House was not big enough....now it's all digital trash and hypothetically it can expand infinitely  It would be worse still if all the original CDs/ DVDs are still maintained in addition to the virtual copies stored on hard drives!

the problem wud be if everything is stored on 1 harddisk and it fails u lose EVERYTHING! backing up 1 TG is very tedious job too.

the problem is, the more you store/hoard/keep, the more you risk losing!!Spring cleaning strategy is a wise one!!!

but the per mb cost of the 1 tb hard drive is lower than than say 4 250 gb ones so u can save money but as amish said a crash would make u lose all your data

if u r going to clean junk off ur drive than anyway u dont need TGB harddisk..if u ask me...what is important for me is just abt 1 GB on my harddisks (80+20+20 GB). rest is re-installable or songs and stuff.

So, would either of you go for a 1TB disk? Or would you prefer 250*multiples?Or like me, would you try to stay within a certain limit (I don't want to ever store more than 100 gig)

i am happy with my 80 gig , ill buy a 100 gb external one though for backups and stuff
