Search Engines: Microsoft Bing - WolframAlpha - Yahoo - Google

Most of the people who do use yahoo search is because they are already on the yahoo page , very few people open yahoo only for searching
 
there was a time when yahoo used to be our search engine. i remember my first job... we used yahoo as expected. and then one day we found google image search. apparently, yahoo lacked image search at that time. after using google image search, we got hooked to google for regular searching too. that was pretty extraordinary stuff. had no idea that the funny sounding name google would become one of the most dominating companies online.i also remember reading about google in one of the issues of pc world india. they had a small paragraph on google with a screenshot. it was rather interesting to read an article on search engines at that time because well... Yahoo was SEARCH :)
 
MSN Search used inktomi, looksmart and even altavista.MSN Image search used data from picsearch.
 
I think Yahoo had bought inktomi but still continued to use Google. Actually this was turning point of Google, Yahoo was widely used search engine and their use of Google made Google very popular.
 
yeap yahoo acquired inktomi for their own search engine. but they used google for a long time. :D and that was the demise of yahoo as a search company.yahoo did not start as a search company. it started as an internet directory :D can anyone think of an internet directory now? dmoz used to be pretty close. but it's pretty much dead now. i remember the one time i went to a cyber cafe... back in late 1990s. that cafe had a big fat book of popular internet websites. and it was like THICK. :D
